Since first viewing how many people thought it was about Steve Jobs?

At least since the CNN report.

"It's the system, Lara. People will be different after the Revolution."

You're late to the party. This was made in 2001, back then the market was literally monopolized by Microsoft. There was a stigma against Microsoft, and this movie was probably just another product of that stigma. They obviously wanted everyone to think of Bill Gates and his "evil" corporation that is Microsoft when they see the movie.

Alas, fast forward to over a decade later, the mass public just hop from one big corporation to another. In this case, from Microsoft to Apple.

90% of PC's (Desktops & Laptops) still use Microsoft Windows. This number has not changed much since the 90's, however there are just many more types of devices to access the Internet now that aren't Microsoft, so in that regard it is different.

This was always a movie about an alternate Bill Gates & Microsoft.

In regard to your last statement, while I definitely get a big Microsoft vibe from the film, I do remember reading that they pulled from BOTH Gates and Jobs to create the character of Gary Winston.
