Such a blatant Pokemon RIP OFF

How did they get away with making Yugi Oh, Digimon and of course Monster Rancher.

reply

The only similarity between the two is that they have worlds populated by monsters that live alongside humans like nearly all anime shows...

Digimon actually came out a year before Pokemon. But both concepts had been thought of before either came out, so neither Pokemon and Digimon are a rip-off of each other.

Now human lives and histories are simply pawns in the great game of dominion.....DOOM'S GAME

Though it's several years old, a post I made on another forum is intended to be the definitive rebuttal to the charge that "Monster Rancher" is a ripoff of "Pokemon", or even "Digimon" for that matter: http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=390870&postcount=10

The reason it doesn't mention "Yu-Gi-Oh" is, well....frankly, this is the very first time I've heard of anybody even thinking it somehow figures in this debate....

If you think about it, Pokemon and Monster Rancher are actually quite different.

Let's Compare:

Pokemon
~ Pokemon and Humans live in the same world
~ There's no such thing as "bad" Pokemon
~ Pokemon evolve
~ Humans capture Pokemon and train them

Monster Rancher
~ Monsters and Humans don't coexist(only in the game that Genki got sucked into)
~ There are good and bad monsters
~ the monsters don't evolve
~ Humans don't capture monsters

And the stories are completely different too. Pokemon is about a trainer trying to become a Pokemon Master by capturing monsters and battle Gym Leaders to win badges while Monster Rancher is about a boy that got teleported into a video game and is helping a girl look for the Phoenix to revive the "Lost" monsters and turn all the bad monsters to good ones. Just because a involves monsters doesn't mean that it's a rip off of Pokemon.

I agree

Comparing this to pokemon is liking saying star wars ripped off star trek because they both happen in space:) Even the tone of the series is different.

Pokemon is very happy and upbeat, and while monster rancher does have its happy moments it can get much darker than pokemon ever did.

another important difference is that on Monster Rancher, the monsters can actually express their emotions with speech, instead of just saying their name over and over again, which gets a little repetetive. Sure Pokemon caught on a lot more, but i think Monster Rancher was the overall better show.

reply

Uh, as a SLIGHT rebuttal to that, Mochi was known to refer to himself in the third person, and often WOULD say his name as a response to things. But yeah, Monster Rancher, Pokemon, and Digimon are the same thing in the same way that Robotech, Gundam, and Star Wars are the same thing.

And Yu Gi Oh is the same as them in the same way that Wheel of Fortune is the same as Robotech, Gundam, and Star Wars.

Monster Rancher the show was based on the video game Monster Rancher, and the games are completely different too, with the one exception that they both involve raising monsters. Also, as has already been mentioned in this thread, the shows are pretty different. Monster Rancher was way darker than Pokemon in tone. Monsters actually killed each other in Monster Rancher.

Everything is a Pokemon rip off to the Pokemon fan who never touched other things.

I prefer Monster Rancher a a show and a game over Pokemon's media IMO.

That Is so true

I prefer Monster Rancher a a show and a game over Pokemon's media IMO.
I stopped watching Pokemon after the Johto League Champions season. I always liked Digimon and Monster Rancher more than Pokemon

I Agreed, Monster Rancher is a Worthless Copy of Pokemon
I Never Liked that Show as a Kid
The Characters are Boring, the Comedy is not Funny, the Story is not Interesting
But i liked the Theme Song

Kiti, you are as wrong as humanly possible. That's like saying Power Rangers is a rip off of Spider-man because they both wear costumes.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

I guess everyone has their preferences on which shows they like. But again, I defy anyone to go to the link I gave in an earlier post here, and possibly give any😒 plausible rebuttal that Monster Rancher is a copy of Pokemon and of any other game-based "mon" anime. Like you said, it's a ridiculous comparison made by someone who never really looked at the respective properties in question.
