Underrated - But Why??

Ok, I don't generally feel a need to post on these boards, but reading the other posts here, I had to get a few things off my chest regarding Soul Survivors.

Firstly, how can this film get such a low score on IMDB? I can only assume that the majority of the people who rated it, just didn't understand it.

Which brings me onto my next point - I can't believe how many people here have posted saying they don't understand the film. It's not THAT difficult. Sure, it requires a bit of piecing together, but it's nothing too taxing. I can only assume that the marketing and promotion for this film was aimed too much at the 'Scream' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' crowd and that's why the majority of people who've watched it (and therefore rated it) did not understand it.

Lastly, I can't believe no-one has mentioned the massive similarities between this film and 'Stay' starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. 'Stay' is currently rated MUCH higher than this film, being cited as 'original' etc, yet the basic storyline is pretty much an exact copy of Soul Survivors (which was made years earlier).

So there you go, rant over. I'm not saying this film is fantastic, I'm just saying that the rating on here does not do the film justice. Anyone else agree with the points above?

I do tend to agree, either people didn't have the patience to let the story play out (I'm trying to be nice here) or perhaps, like me, they have another film in mind and it's not Stay, which I thought did have some brilliant original cinematography (the story not so original).

The movie some of us can't get out of our heads when watching Soul Survivors is Jacob's Ladder. There's homage and there is plagiarism. There was too much of the latter here. So there is one small superficial difference, overall, it is just way to similar and not nearly as interesting or provocative as Ladder is.

original? what is an original?it just doesn't happen that much.
dispite what u think of film; was it entertaining,did u enjoy it,
did u go into a journey of suspense,was it spooky enough aside
from critizing it did u like it?if u did then go rent another one.

This movie is more like Carnival of Souls than anything else. Same exact plot and ending. Check out both the original and the Wes Craven presents version with Shawnee Smith. Seeing those films first, Soul Survivors "twist" was apparent. But still not a bad movie.

I think youre dead wrong. Stay wasnt even that great, but the actors had talent, which is something soul survivors lacks. I personally enjoyed soul survivors, but I must say it is definetly one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. It isn't that I don't understand the plot, its just the acting was terrible, the cinematography was horrible and the editing was bad. This movie is just flat out bad. I do not see why anyone would go out of their way to defend it.

p.s - my mom bought it for me for christmas from the five dollar crappy movie bin at wal mart
