That's what I thought. But Curb Your Enthusiasm was inspired by the HBO special, so it's technically not the exact same universe.

Did you watch the episode closely? Do you know what the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' is about?

I haven't seen that episode but I'm pretty damn sure he lied about it on purpose, to win something out of it, since that's the whole idea behind the series.

Yes--his entire speech there was a lie. And in true Larry David fashion, it does not seem to bother him much!

He lied that his mom died and laughed about it, there's nothing worse than that. eheheh

Either that or you have to remeber it was the pilot, things can change from the pilot going into the regular series.

The swear on your children's life thing first came up win a conversation with his wife. He also mentioned his daughter to one guy, and the excuse may have been a lie, but it seems like that guy knew him well enough to know if he had kids.

My guess would be that the special is closer to real life (Larry David does have two daughters) than the series.

Aside from the references to Larry's kids, the HBO Curb special works just fine as a regular episode of the series. I'm surprised it's not included in the already slim syndication package. I think you can easily write off the "swear on my kids' lives" thing as a joke, which is even funnier since we know he has no kids on the show.
