Resemblence to There Will be Blood

Has anyone noticed the similarity? There Will be Blood was even darker and more existential especially the music.

I can see where you are going but all that snow and minus Daniel Day it doesn't even feel the same. The mood in There Will be Blood was dark to begin with and there was some romance and smooth talking. Did Daniel Plainview sweet talk any ladies?

There Will Be blood is basically in a category all to its self but some rough pioneers starting out in a new business thats the similarity. I didn't notice any connection as the tone, themes and setting were completely different. Both excellent movies but Blood is more sinister and has way more isolation, despair, desolation and shows the true dark side of wealth.

also a lot like mcabe &mrs miller

Yes, brownfarm1, good point about the resemblance. Some epic images like the burning horse and the house being moved remind me of indelible scenes in TWBB. Also made me think of Fitzcarraldo by Werner Herzog.

I agree with Thor- on that one.

"The Claim" is more like Hardy's source novel "The Mayor of Casterbridge" meets "McCabe & Mrs. Miller"

"There Will Be Blood" is "Citizen Kane" meets "Treasure of Sierra Madre"

"The Claim", "McCabe" and "TWBB" are 3 of my favorite movies btw

Embarrassed to say I still haven't seen McCabe & Mrs. Miller even tho I am an Altman worshiper. Watched the first 5 or 10 minutes years ago and loved every second.
