That song again.

So, what was "I Will Walk 500 Miles" doing popping up in this movie? As far as I know, the song was original to "The Committments" (1991). Seems a bit soon for it to have passed into the standard, Public Domain reprtoire.

Wikipedia says it was first done by The Proclaimers in 1988. I love the song--first time I heard it was by George Donaldson in Celtic Thunder. He's ruined me wanting to hear ANYONE else sing it! Steven Curtis Chapman did a version of it but being a Christian performer he changed the part about "when I get drunk I'm going to be the man who gets drunk next to you." :) Wikipedia also said it's been used in quite a few movies.

Same thing with "Make Me Smile." Some songs seem to be SOP.

This classic song by The Proclaimers is definitely not in The Commitments film. It is from their 1988 album Sunshine on Leith. It has been played prior to Scotland football matches in Glasgow's Hampden Park and when Scotland scores. It has been used in many tv shows and films, and is practically required at Scottish wedding receptions! The Proclaimers are a great band and have many iconic songs. Check them out on iTunes or amazon.
