That bad, huh?

Yep!

Why do people hate the things they don't understand? - Bobby Hill, King of the Hill

No, this was a well done, if a little predictable, movie.
I didn't guess the ending until I saw the coffin, but the rest (other than the true identity of the cab driver), I was able to predict.
However, it was very intelligently and disturbingly done, and for that reason alone, I would say it deserved a much higher rating.

There were two huge problems with this movie.
1) The acting was awful - the kid did a decent job of being creepy, but the father seemed like a stock character and the mother seemed unable to act to save her life; in fact this might not have been her fault, it might have been the script.
2) Just as importantly, this movie is almost completely unoriginal. They made it many, many years ago and called it "Rosemary's Baby," and it was a cinematic milestone. That was a very tightly woven, seamless storyline, a good, compelling, and original script, and even a novel concept at the time. Plus it went into a lot of interesting new ethical issues.
By contrast, this movie used almost exactly the same plot line, but added in a little "twist" at the end which I'm sorry to say (the part about asking her to do what she did being part of their plan) I did see coming.
They DO deserve credit for picking very nice locations to shoot at, but making a cloudy Isle of Mann look creepy is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. A couple of other moments were decent and surprising - such as when she saw her friend's head outside the door, so credit where credit is due. But overall, this basically amounted to a remake of other work that contained substantially more plot holes. Perhaps because earlier tonight I saw "the others" my standard was unfairly raised, but if you compare the two this really is not particularly good in any way. Sorry.
