Why is this film so unknown??

"You want a Chesterfield?"

reply

Well it was a straight-to-video release with little advertising. It also happened to be mind-numbingly boring after the first 15 minutes...and the terrible acting might have something to do with it....

I have watched this movie a couple different times, the 1st time I hated it... the second time it was different, and the 3rd time was ok... But all I know is normally when it takes me 3 times to get a movie's point, then I generally hate the film... But in this case, with R Xmas I noticed something different, that this is actually a great film...

reply

^^^could you elaborate on that?

In the past Ive disliked some of Ferrara's movies because I found them slow and pretentious, but with R Xmas I simply thought it was crappy. However thats not to say that my opinion's set in stone. Im very curious to hear what makes it so great.....

for me, what I got out of it, was that it was an original Idea for a plot, but there was just something about it, I don't know what it was, but like I said after the 3rd time I watched it I thought well this isn't as bad, but It's been what, a couple years now since I have seen the film, so I will have to watch it again, I will get it from Netflix again... now I don't know about Abel ferrara, I don't recall ever seeing any of his other works, do you recommend any film he has done in particular? if so I will get them also and try and watch them... and once I watch RXmas again, I will do my best to point out on the things that I noticed, and elaborate on what I said...

I've seen a few of his films. The first one I saw was 'The Addiction', which is probably still my favourite.

The Addiction is amazing..Bad Lieutenant is one of the greatest films ever. Ferrara has also made good films like King of New York and The Prophesy. I haven't seen 'R Xmas yet, but will have to check it out.

I suppose someone should point out that Ferrara had nothing to do with "The Prophesy"

I gave this movie a chance last week and rented it, and I'm still regretting that!
