Cult Classic

I think this movie should be considered a cult classic. No, this movie isn't a realistic look into the business of professional wrestling, nor is it a look into the lives of professional wrestlers themselves. If that's what you're looking for you won't find it in this movie. However, what this film ACTUALLY does, is present Professional wrestling as we, the fans, would like it to be. The writer and director of this film completely understand how professional wrestling works and they don't play it straight for a minute. That's why this movie is so funny. In fact, this movie succeeds where "No Holds Barred" fails. "No Holds Barred" tries to make it seem that pro wrestling is real, and that's where it falls flat on its face. With it's cartoonish characters, and extremely over the top villain! Does "Ready to Rumble" have this as well? Of course it does! However, "Ready to Rumble" doesn't insult your intelligence by trying to present wrestling as real. Personally, I really enjoy this movie, and not in a guilty pleasure/so bad it's good way. The best thing I can say is that this movie isn't for the casual wrestling fan, it's for the hardcore/die hard wrestling fan who understands how it all works. If you fit into the previously mentioned criteria, than you should love this film! Should this film be considered a cult classic? In my opinion: Yes!
