'Vain Woman' = Return of the Living Dead III

Anyone notice the similarities? Sure, Return III is a zombie film but its lead character Julie seems to get extreme pleasure from mutilating herself and turning herself into a human pincushion just like "Vain Woman" in this movie. Both do their own gruesome self-mutilation act in an almost identical way; jamming metal rods through their arms, cutting up their bodies with glass, sticking pins through their ears, putting safety pins through their lips, etc.

I made some of that connection too--although I don't feel like it was a purposeful thing. It's pretty common when movies go down this route. It was rather logical as she was just sort of using whatever was around her. So in that sense, it follows some convention...I mean as conventional as this type of thing can get.

One of the most horrifying acts of self-mutilation I've seen was in Cutting Moments, the short by Douglas Buck, and drove the point of vanity home much harder than this film did with Vain Woman.
