Those d-a-m-n roommates!

They made the movie unwatchable. They were so douchy and disgusting. How could they lie on Paul like that?? He was an amazing roommate to take care of their *beep* Don't get me started on the roofies thing. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

reply

Agreed! I'm watching now and the word "doosh" was clearly based on these three. It actually annoys me that Paul is so gullible to believe their crap!

reply

Can I also add how much I hate Greg kinnear's character in this ! Who would treat Mena suvari this bad ????????

reply

The thing that annoyed me was how they were supposed to be the cool kids who rejected a loser but they couldn't have been less "cool". A bunch of lightweight boy band wannabes who needed a haircut and a major punch to the face.

reply

Yeah that was my problem with them...guys that bad and mediocre-looking would never be "cool"...they'd be bigger losers than Jason Biggs's character.

I think that's the idea. His roommates were meant to be giant douches so they had to do things like that

reply

I agree! They reminded me of the people I went to college with! Granted, I never had to stay in a dorm but for some reason those douchy drunk and partying kids were always seen as cool while people like Paul and I got picked on. College really does suck! :/

reply

College most certainly does not suck.

Loser has its moments but I agree; it’s very difficult to get past the nastiness of the roommates. What’s also bothersome to me is that it takes Paul so long to see them for what they are. I realize he’s naïve and trusting, but he’s not an idiot; I’d like to think anyone with half a brain—hell, one-quarter of a brain—would see that these three guys are despicable, opportunistic miscreants.

The date rape drugs they gleefully administer should definitely be taken more seriously. Paul should have gone to the cops with that one.

Yeah, the weird thing about the movie's treatment of the roommates is that it seems to view them as run-of-the-mill douchebags - a-holes, but essentially comic ones - rather than what they are, which is actual rapists. You get the feeling Heckerling doesn't really grasp how serious the roofie thing actually is. (It's not helped by the implication at the end of the film that one of the roommates is now, himself, being raped in prison - which is phrased in such a way that we're clearly supposed to laugh.)

It's a shame, because I really like the film otherwise. It's just that that stuff feels awfully tone-deaf.
