animal abuse

Sadly, when Herucles unleashes a sweeping strike on the first horse and rider with the small tree that he had just uprooted, the white horse falls, but quickly gets back up with either a broken or severely injured right front leg. Unfortunetly, animal abuse in Hollywood still exists.

I dont know for sure, but i highly doubt it if the horse was really injured. Because if it did, there would be an uproar. That scene probably wont make it to the audience.

I think it was all staged. I dont think the character who play hercules could be able to lift that tree and swing it by himself. There must be some sort of contraption that helped him. And if that was staged, the horse's fall could be fake.

reply

You have to slow the video down to spot it. It's real quick and if you dont have the eye for this sort of thing, its very easy to miss. It wasnt staged. I own, train and breed race horses. I have also in my youth, worked as an equine vet assistant and you cant stage a broken wobbly cannon bone or pastern bone.

It may have been a tragic accident, but the horse was definetely injured in the spill.

As for the tree, it was small and pretty much limb-less and most likely fake, unlike the horse, which was real.

I saw the movie on sci-fi, I have no mean of watching it again much less slowing it down. Wouldnt matter anyway, I have very little knowledge about horses. I wont be able to tell if the horse was really injured.

The character who played Hercules is pretty big. But seeing how bulky and long the tree was, I doubt if he could swing the tree with enough force to injure the horse.
Even if the horse was really injured, I think it was probably an accident. I doubt if they really told the actor to swing the tree at the horse for real. There would had been an uproar. And I doubt they would be able to put that scene in the final cut

reply

Forget the tree. It wasnt from the tree. It was from the fall. However they caused the horse to take a spill, that is what caused the injury.

reply

A horse getting accidently hurt isn't really animal abuse.

reply

The right front leg definitely dangles as the animal gets up.

First of all the tree is irrelevant. The "tree" in the previous shot doesn't even touch the horse, the swing is timed to coincide with the horse falling, but it never connects.

Unfortunately it looks like the horse injured itself in the fall. I don't know enough about horses to know whether that would ultimately lead to the horse being put down and I don't know enough about horse movement to say if that was just the animal trying to regain its balance or whether that was a genuine injury, although I have to say it does look very limp.

Obviously this was an accident. I wouldn't call it abuse at all but the shot of the horse getting up is so unimportant that there was absolutely no need to include it if indeed the animal was mortally injured. In fact it's not even the same take, since the rider is trapped under the horse after Heracles strikes and then when it cuts to the horse getting up a split second later, the rider has vanished.

I suspect the fall that is shown is not the fall where the horse is injured (it certainly appears to be in good condition during that shot), but that the horse was injured during a later take. They should not have included the shot. This isn't supposed to be Cannibal Holocaust.

Um,is that why alot of these celebrities are
vegetarians?Seriously,I would like to see animal
abuse end period, and not just in Hollywood.

reply

Yes, it would have been an accident not a case of animal abuse. I care a lot about the issue of animal abuse, but I don't ridiculously think that any injury caused to animals in films etc is a case of abuse. When a human actor gets injured, is it abuse?

you want animal abuse? in King Solomon's Mines two elephants are shot and killed on camera

whose *beep* jizz is it!!!??

reply

I can't tell if the OP is trying to troll, but if he is, he fails miserably at it.

It was probably all done by computers, none of those horses even existed. The actor for Hercules would have in no way been strong enough to swing any tree, period, much less uproot it. I've seen full sized pickup trucks struggle at doing that.

1.) MyAwakening is an idiot, it was all live action.
2.) There are two horses, the rider is trapped under one and we see another getting to its feet.
3.) There was a disclaimer at the end of the movie, stating no animals were injured during the filming of the movie.

When Jason and gang make their return with the fleece, one of the guys is really grabbing two goats by the horns in a way that looks none too pleasant.
