Hey, strippers- is it really such a mess in there?

Any strippers out there want to confirm the drama? Is it really such a mess, literally and figuratively, in there? Is so much sex being offered? How real was this movie?

reply

I'm not a stripper but I have several friends who dance, and the situation varies with the kind of place they're working and what kind of clientele it attracts. The one huge difference between this movie and real life is that the depressing, gritty clubs do not EVER have huge lineups of such beautiful, healthy-looking dancers.

Depends on the place. The high-dollar ones are usually not. I had a friend in college who worked in one. This place had no cover charge, but it was a 2 drink minimum on $20 drinks. Plus it was safe; you laid a finger on one of the girls and you were out and never allowed back. She was a single mom and full time nursing student, and on weekends her mother would keep her kids so she could work Fridays and Saturday nights (her mother knew). During the school week she got to be home with her kids. A lot of the women she worked with came from similar situations, and once she finished school she quit stripping. In the few years she did it, she paid all her school expenses, managed all the bills, and by the end she was able to put a huge down payment on a very nice house.

Seems like there would be more Hispanic and African-American dancers?
