I watched this movie again last night. It is a well constructed, beautifully paced film, utilising intelligent dialogue and featuring some of the finest male leads that Australia has to offer. And yet it rates 5.2 and most Australians would never have heard of it, let alone bother to watch it.
shareI agree. I also saw this film last night for the second time. And just like the first time, I stumbled across it channel surfing. I don't remember any advertising for this film and as you say it is a classy film. Strong, understated acting in an Australian Film industry that is struggling to find a credible identity. A real shame.
shareIt was the second time I stumbled across it as well. I believe a while ago they did have Australian movies on a Thursday night and they put on some interesting one. Love Song Serenade is another one I recall seeing.
The script was so focused on dialogue it felt as though this had been originally written as a play but there is very little information on the board about this.

It is so incredibly well written, so involving and the actors did a fantastic job. I really do think it is the best Australian film ever. And I think it also stands up as being a fantastic film in itself.

It is so sad that more people havent seen it or that it isnt even advertised. I first saw in on the ABC years ago and was lucky enough to start taping it after I realised just how amazing it was. And they didnt promote it either.
I thnk that this film shows just what is wrong with the Australian film industry, it is an example of a quality film that should be made, instead of the crap that the Aus film industry puts out that no-one really wants to watch and if they do decide to give an Australian film a go they get burned by something that is over Australian and is hardly watchable to the average person unless you REALLY like arthouse movies like Road to Nihl etc etc etc.
