Resident Evil 2 is the best, I can't remember how many times I played through it, the storyline is very good and has a very epic feeling to it. Resident Evil: Code Veronica is second, because the mood and terrifying feeling of it can't be forgotten. The original Resident Evil (I liked it better than the remake) comes in after that, then Resident Evil 4 although I didn't like how unrealistic and over-the-top it got at times, then Resident Evil 3, and then all the other ones after that...I never played 0 so I can't vouch for that game.

reply

I haven't played all the games, but I've rated the ones i have played. So at the risk of getting chastised, here goes.

1) RE Code Veronica - I really loved this game. The fact that it was so challenging in many facets and had a pretty good story made it all the more enjoyable to me. The multiple locations and the fact i got to kill Steve's whiny ass was incredibly satisfying.
2) RE1 (Remake) - They took the original game and fixed some of the bad parts. Also added some great things (Crimson Heads, for example) and in turn made a very good game into a great game.
3) RE2 - I liked the idea of the virus infiltrating the city. The inclusion of Leon & Claire as characters, as well as the multiple scenarios for each was really cool too. Oh and that Tyrany fellow was pretty bad ass too!
4) RE4 - I liked this game, but it didn't feel very RE to me. Ironically, the same could be said for Silent Hill 4. Hopefully Capcom will stray away from this and get back on track for the RE storyline.
5) RE0 - A decent game, but really came across as filler until RE4 was dropped to me. Some plot holes here also that kind of made me scratch my head. Seems like Capcom was just trying to cash in here.
6) RE3 - An ok game, but really didn't do anything for me one way or the other. Felt at times like i was just going through the motions. Nemesis was cool though, but i kind of got annoyed of him stalking me as time passed.
7) RE Outbreak - I tried playing this one, but i couldn't get into it at all. It was at times too difficult and barking all those commands and whatnot felt like a pain in the ass.
8) RE Survivor - Tried playing this one too, but also couldn't get into it. It just wasn't interesting to me and didn't have a RE vibe to it.

Same here not played em all.. but out of the ones i have played..

#1 Resident Evil: Code Veronica - Definitely. Very exciting and entertaining, the storyline always kept you guessing. Got even more interesting when you started playing as Chris.. if only Steve hadn't been in it, lol.. he annoyed me immensely..

#2 Resident Evil 4 - Really, really good but yh its not really an RE game is it? It's different, but it's still fantastic, and one of my favourite games ever.

#3 Resident Evil 2 - Fantastic, great storyline, Leon and Claire.. Sherry! <3 What more could you want?? Oh yh and Ada lol <3

#4 Resident Evil 1 (Original) - So maybe the REmake has better graphics and all.. but the original will always provail for me. The voice acting is legendary. Loved it a lot!

#5 Resident Evil REmake - Fantasteec. Reason this and the first are lower down the liste is coz for me the first game didn't have the best story.. I mean you just explored a mansion yeah.. but the other ones were better in regards to the story.. graphics were better here aswell.

#6 Resident Evil 0 - It's my least favourite but that doesn't mean I didn't like it. I had a great time playing this one even if some parts were really difficult.

Not played RE3 yet.. lol.

WHAT U THINK NEMISIS IS THE WORST? i havent even played it and i think its the best

reply

LMAO, what kind of sense does that make, cypriot_boy? You haven't played it and you think it's the best? That does not tell me ANYTHING about RE 3 being a good game- only that you have no clue what you're talking about.

reply

from all the hype about it.

my friends used to always talk about it(thats what got me into resident evil) and its the game that's featured most in the re movie. so id have to say its the best even though i haven't played it

BRING BACK SIENNA GUILLORY FOR RESIDENT EVIL 4 HERE http://www.gopetition.com/online/24103.html

reply

Um, no.

Again, that tells me NOTHING. Based on that kind of reasoning, 'Twilight' should be an amazing movie because of all the hype around it. Hype means nothing- Twilight is *beep* I don't understand how you can consider RE 3 to be the best RE game, especially having not played it. As someone who has beaten it twice, I think it's a good game, but the best RE game? Not by a long, long shot.

You have incredibly poor reasoning. Play it, and then your opinion might be the slightest bit valid.

reply

of course it tells you something

resident evil nemesis was the basis for resident evil apocalypse.........they couldn't done re2 if they wanted but they chose nemesis (im gona have to assume its cos it was the best)

and after i bought re2 and was talking to my friends about it i found out that none of them had it they all had nemesis.

so yer theres my reasoning....i see ur point................so lets agree to disagree?

reply

We can agree to disagree, but you're still wrong, whether we agree to it or not. ;)

The Resident Evil movies were poorly down, and should not be considered 'canon'. Alice has no place in the RE gaming universe, so the fact that Apocalypse was based off of the third is really irrelevant. It had 'Nemesis' and a couple of characters, but other than that... not really.

And again, your friends having Nemesis but not the third means nothing. I had purshased Nemesis before 2- simply because 2 was incredibly difficult to find. All I have is the N64 version.

Have you played any of them at all, or are you just pulling opinions out of your ass?

no *beep* the resi movies are not canon (to the resi games universe.

paul took what was gona be the most recognizable and therefore best game and used it for the movie. it was practically the same story escape nemesis and the city before death

um yer it doesnt mean something if they have it its obviously better. why? because it was on sale longer. my resi 2 version was a preowned version and it looked like someone had tried to eat the case

Have you played any of them at all, or are you just pulling opinions out of your ass?

even if i was pulling opinions out of "my ass" would i admit i hadnt played them if i hadnt?

Listen darlin', I am not going to argue about which Resident Evil game is best with someone who doesn't seem to have played the games. I wouldn't go onto a Final Fantasy board and argue the third one is best- because I haven't played any of them - so that would be stupid.

There is no place for the movies on boards belonging to the games. Perhaps your arguement would be better suited for the Apocalypse message board. You can tell me all you want about Paul picking the most 'recognizable' aspects of RE, but in all honesty I don't really care. As someone who has played and beaten all the games- and has been a fan since the very original- in no way do any of the movies measure up. They were poorly done, and I don't feel they represent RE accurately enough. I'm sorry- but that arguement is irrelevant.

Once you actually give not only RE 3 but all the rest of them a shot- then we can have a valid arguement about the best game. Up until then, I am unsure of how to argue which game is best with you.

Cheers.

I would like to mention, since this post is on the code veronica page, we're going to have a lot of veronica fans posting it high on the list.

I began my RE career with 2. I thought it was the best there ever was as far as video games. Then, along came NEMESIS and for a while, the two were battling for 1st place. now I'd like to think NEMESIS as #1 with RE2 a close second. Mostly because they seem to be the same game with different plots. NEMESIS had improved graphics.

RE4 was tough to get used to. I love the game, but it was an adjustment with the over the shoulder camara, but the graphics, Huge amount of gameplay and extras along with the many different customizations of the weapons puts this one at number 3.

Code Veronica is great also. I played it when it first came out for the dreamcast, but for some reason or another didn't get past the beginning before getting distracted with life. After several years (and after completing everything in RE4) I bought this off ebay. I must say, I was so happy to see the good old item box and backround music mixed with superior graphics and angles. It is a joy to play, They should make some old-school games like this, I would buy them even if they aren't state of the art with graphics and require a 360 or PS3.

Sorry, I can't vouch for the first game. Never played it for PS1 and refused to ever get a game cube.

RE is simply the greatest series of all time with its ups and downs. I remember playing a 1st person shooter (shootout or dead aim or something) for ps1 many years back for PS1, it was so aweful I would like to forget all about it. Though, I believe it helps pick up important story plots for subsequent titles.

Keep in mind, all these titles listed rank very close to each other. Its not like I'm putting Veronica DEAD last, it just ranks at # four of some of my favorite games of all time. It even beats out Super Mario Bros. 3, which is tough to do.

"Proactive" and "paradigm"... Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important?

#1. RE 4 - I think the 2005 GAME OF THE YEAR speaks for itself, even though it really didn't advance the whole storyline that much. (A+)

#2. RE 3 - This was the first RE game that I beat, and probably scared me the most out of any other in the series. (A)

#3. RE 2 - It was definitly a huge step up from the original, which was a masterpiece in itself. It was also really cool how there were 2 scenarios to both characters. (lower A lol)

#4. RE CV - The true RE 4. RE CV probably advanced the storyline more than any previous RE game. I also really liked how long the game was. (A-)

#5. RE 1/Remake - It would be impossible for me to determine which one I like better because they both have elements that I liked and didn't like. And even though their 5th on the list doesn't mean that I think they are a lot less caliber. It was very hard for me to make out this list because these 2 and the ones above are all very close in my opinion. (B+)

#6. RE 0 - This was the first RE game that didn't really blow me away. Even though the graphics were AMAZING, I wasn't really impressed with this game that much. (B-/C+)

#7. RE Outbreak/Dead Aim/Survivor - These games may have been a lot of things, but they were NOT RE games. There was definitly not much thought put into making these games. All the producers wanted was a buck. They had no thought into making a true RE game. (F, F, F)

I cant choose my fave between RES, RES 2, CODE VERONICA. i love them for different reasons.

RES - The game that started it all! In my view the hardest too.

RES - It had the different sernarios so there was a good reason to complete it four times.......... and its got Mr X

CODE V - Find it the most fun to play, but no replay value in my view (for a while anyway)

but for the rest....

4. RES 3, really good but it was sooooooo easy even on hard! on easy you started with more ammo than NATO.

5. RES 4, differece in game play was a suprise but its not 'RES' i really hope the rest of the games are not going to follow suit and stick to this style. Maybe keep the over the shoulder view but not the frantic 'kill 20 in a minute' pace.

6.RES 0 - didnt really do it for me. Saw it as a stopgap for RES 4. Thought the switch character a will option wasnt great.

7.RES SURVIVER - dire just.........dire.

reply

So far:
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 0 - this one pissed me off I got all the way to the end and I didn't have any life!!!! NOT cool. My own fault but whatever. lol. For that I hate it.

Still haven't played 3 or 4.

reply

I'm not gonna list all the ones i've played but personally I'd say the Remake is the best and this one is the weakest(mostly just because the Hunters pissed me off! lol.) But all of them are about in the same league in my book. Definitely all some of the best games of all time.

Great question:

RE2 - Although not the first, it was a cultural highpoint in the history of videogames. That scene where Leon enters the police station for the first time... makes the hairs stand up on my arms just thinking about it. Genius.

RE4 - One of the greatest video games of all time and a genuine new lease on life for the series. unbeliebvable depth, replayability and value for money.

Code Verononica - It's close between this one and RE Remake but this just about gets it for fantastic locations, a massive sprawling story and some great characters.

RE Remake - Worth the cost of a Gamecube by itself. The genius of the original tastefully reworked and tightened for the 128 bit generation of consoles. Absolutely beautiful, the shark tank set piece was amazing.

Nemesis - Not as good as RE2 but nicked just about all the locations and atmosphere giving you more of the same. With that in mind, how bad can it really be?

Dead Aim - A bit controversial here. Most people hate it but I think it was one of the only cheapo spin-offs from the RE universe to really harness the atmosphere of the main titles. Morpheus Duvall was a good footnote in the RE overarching story and the initial scene aboard the liner was pretty fun.

RE Zero - Should have been incredible but somehow came across as a bit bland and listless. Some of the animal-based mutations were a bit lame and I really only started to enjoy the environments when it got onto familiar turf later. I really thought a visit to the Spencer estate would be more exciting.

Outbreak I and II - This garbage does not fit into the RE universe in my opinion. It was a shameless stopgap bank raid by Capcom. Shame on you.

But of course now it's all about RE5 and i'm sure it's pretty safe to say it's going to land top 3 on everybody's chart!

reply

Gosh thats one hard question the answer I mean resident evil as a series is just fantastic.

Res 1
Top of the list for me because this is where it all started it was a great game of its time I played it when it very first came out and it took hours of my life trying to complete.

Res 0
I loved this game because it gave us some back story to the mansion incident and told us about the fued between the founding members of umbrella. Also because they way they made the game was also interesting. I would love to see Chambers and Coen team up again now that Chambers is a lot older I think she would suprise Coen. And I think she would be able to hold her own.

Res 3
A fantastic game it was great to see Jill back and Carlos was a great addition to the resident evil series.

res 2
I did enjoy this game a lot but didn't understand why everyone went crazy over Ada. I have heard many times that Ada is a lot better than Claire. Which to me is stupid, Claire didn't have any training yet made it out of raccoon in one peice and looked after Sherry.

Res CV
This was a very good game but it doesnt look like capcom are regarding it as canon. Still liked the game and Steve and the bond he and Claire had.

Least Fav res game is res 4. Now I know a lot of people wont be happy that I have said that but on its own it was an amazing game but the only thing that connected to res was Leon it wasn't a virus it didn't even have zombies. Like I said on its own i like the game but as a res title the others rank above it for me.

Hayley

Was interested by what you said about how RE CV wasn't being considered canon.

What makes you think this?

I kind of though it fitted in because it fleshed out the back story about the Spencer family and also showed what Wesker, Claire and Chris did after the mansion incident/ Raccoon city incident.

reply

well not that its been confirmed but I heard in a clip for the new game Wesker saying to Chris that they last met at the Spencer estate meaning the mansion. And plus they never mentioned what Claire had been thru with Steve in the movie degeneration.

So there is a chance that there not putting it in the timeline as canon.

Loyalty binds me

reply

I see.

I could be willing to look past the lack of references from Claire in Degeneration but the tacked-on bit with Wesker and Chris at the end of CV-X is undeniable.

Pity. I like CV a lot. Would have liked it if they had kept it as part of the central story.

reply

Same here I liked the game a lot and I was hoping to see something of Steve again. They still might have it as canon but I not going to get my hopes us.

Loyalty binds me

reply

Sorry hayles, don't know where you read that, but its bs.

CV is part of the canon, check planetre and the wiki page.

As for my list, I;ve only played 3 of 'em, and watched every cutscene+important gameplay points for RE0 (not buying a nintendo product no thanks), and I will do the same for 4 and 5 also (however, I can't speak for the gameplay itself, as I haven't played the games).

I own 1, 2, 3, and CV, thus when I beat Claire's game, and 3, I will rport back with a list.

"Hey you smokin Mother Nature, this is a bust!"-The Who
"The Legend will Never Die!"-Soul Calibur

reply

Thanks for letting me know. I didnt read it anywhere I just looking at the clips before the game came out and it looked like they were excluding res CV.

Loyalty binds me

reply

Hayley,

I guess you've found this out for yourself by now, but CV is canon. Doesn't Wesker say to Chris in RE5 that this is the first time they have met since the island?

1) REmake - before the remake, the original Resident Evil would actually be lurking quite low in this chart, but the remake was absolutely stunning in every way - genuinely terrifying in places, and the absolute pinnacle of old-style resident evil. All the extra touches and what-not make it the definitive and best Resident Evil title in my opinion.

2) Resident Evil 2 - The resi game I've played and completed the most - so many memories and one of the strongest storylines in the series in my humble opinion. It's just an absolute classic and holds a very special place in me ticker!

3) Resident Evil 5 - Probably controversial, but purely for how fun it is to play, in my opinion Resi 4 and 5 are incredibly playable games and lots of entertainment in them - that Resi 5 sticks a lot closer to the RE storyline than RE4 and also just general preference puts this above 4 in my humble opinion.

4) Resident Evil 4 - Absolutely remarkable upon release, it's still an amazing game to play to date. An almost completely detached storyline and graphical differences put it below 5 in my estimations.

5) Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - One of the classic PS1 resident evils, although its #5 I still think it is one of the best games in the series. The nemesis in particular really makes it an awesome title, although its not quite expansive or diverse enough to compete with RE2 in my expectations.

6) Resident Evil Zero - Graphically glorious, RE0 has a bit of a muddled and awkwardly handled storyline but still remains loyal to the 'creepy old house - laboratory' structure of previous Resident Evils. Plus points for the at times scary leech men, minus points for the fact that 90% of the boss's seem like rejects of original RE1 ideas - just enormous animals, though not as cool as the snakes, spiders, sharks etc. of the original.

7) Resident Evil Code Veronica - One of the best storylines of the series without a doubt, nonetheless the controls are at their weirdest I believe in CV and the graphics are in a strange mid-generation cartoony situation meaning I was never really creeped out or scared. Alexia absolutely kicks arse though! Shame Chris in this is about as charismatic as a plane of wood.

havent played them all as apart from the N64 i dont own anything nintendo. Here is my list from best (being at the top) to worst:

RE2 - The daddy!! The first resident evil game i played and was instantly
hooked. Loved the fact you could play as claire and leon.

RE:CV - fantastic graphics and great feel. found it challenging at times but
got there in the end.

RE3 - nemesis is one bad mother *beep* Neat little tweaks to improve gameplay.

RE1 - Music and graphics a bit bait but still great gameplay

RE5 - hd graphics gives it a superior feel but not the greatest fan of co-op.
Especially when the computer controlled idiot keeps dying on me

RE4 - Didnt feel like resident evil but good game play and great graphics

RE outbreak - What the hell is this game. Gave myself 5 days to get past first
level and i couldnt. Mostly through very lack of effort as i didnt
get the concept and couldnt be bothered. Very poor gameplay
