This was on BET last night (spoilers in thread)

I saw this movie last night. I thought this was going to be about racism, but as the movie progressed, I saw that it wasn't about it at all, but rather more about the injustices of the legal system. Overall though, I just didn't get it at the end. The whole movie seemed rather pointless with the way it ended. I was hoping that Elijah would either end up as a photographer, or prove that his father was vindicated in his assault on the police officer via his photos.

I don't think it was about injustice. It was about how your actions not only affect you but everyone else around you as well. I agree, though, that there were many set-ups throughout the movie that were never resolved. Also, the film had such a "pity me" attitude that I just didn't care anymore at the end. My exact verbal reaction to Elijah's untimely demise: "Wow. Sucks to be you."

you're right- it is about injustice and it is also about race and how minorities find themselves in these situations. The reason why the end seems so "pointless" is because the point is that it is real life. It would be wonderful if people who had the potential deserved a good future got one, but there are people like Elijah everywhere in America who end up just like Elijah. God bless America!!!

The ending, in my opinion, would've been ruined if he did escape.
