Garbage

This film sucked and here are a few reasons why.
1. Most important it's seriously unprofessional. The editing is the worst i have ever seen in a documentary. The director lets it go on and on and on. You get the impression about half way into the film that the band is breaking up and they continue to break up for about 40 minutes. By the time it was finished I was glad to finally see credits.
2.More on editing- the director didn't know when to cut the tape. She would ask a question, get an answer and then just stay on the subject for a painfully long time getting loads of extra garbage. The drummer in particular went on and on repeating the same stuff. You got the sense that there was only so much to tell about this band and they had to prolong it. The drummer is bitter...we get it.
3. The music sucked. While the runaways are a novalty, the music is lame. Nothing memorable about it. Even more sad is the fact they there were new tunes written espescially for it.
4. Lita Ford is a pretentious bore. The only one in the film that had half a career (thought extremly brief), comes off as an idiot. You want to know the real reason Joan Jett didn't do the film? She was the only one who had any success to risk on this.
5. At one point the mother of the drummer is talking and the camera pans to the drummer, and someone actually pushed the camera back on to the mom who was crying.

This film had some potential and some of the info was interesteing, particualry the abuse the girls had to suffer, but even that was rehashed over and over.
If you want to save yourself a good hour and a half here is the film in a nutshell-
Producer verbally abused them, Manager abused them and had sex with all of them but one, Joan and the singer got it on a couple of times, they didn't like each other, the mothers were upset and drummer is bitter that the band quit.

I am talking about the film from a technical standpoint. Are you saying that this was professionaly done?

And the success I was speaking about was musical. Whether or not Lita Ford had some minor success in Europe is irrelevant. She still didn't come close to matching JJ's success.

The film is garbage.
The story maybe isn't.

She was HUGE in the late '80s and early '90s. The only reason she did not remain popular is because dreaded GRUNGE took hold and melodic pop/metal artists/music was no longer "hot." Do your musical homework, there.

Well, ya wanna know the truth?

That film woulda been HOT if it hadda been more about THE RUNAWAYS
(shots of WHOLE
ACTUAL
ORIGINAL
RUNAWAYS songs
from back THEN)

instead of about five, forty-five year old women reminiscing about what a bummer it all was.

that was depressing

and the reminiscing woulda been aided by Joan chiming in

I STILL wanna see the movie about THE BAND
playing THEIR SONGS

thirty years ago

I missed 'em when they were happening

and that teenage girl band seems like they were HOT

but how would I ever know from this movie?

Thanks to Joan blocking THEIR songs

we get to see PORTIONS of two covers
and that's it

sad

looks like it's not going to be allowed

what a drag

just discovered a cool band that I can never see!

And what would ANYBODY be risking with a movie about themselves?

Watching the girls onstage--with the sound turned down, like that
(pitiful)
only made me interested in the whole thing...
I remembered that THAT was the girl I had seen in the movie: FOXES, all those years ago

Sheesh!

Seems like a full-blown movie of THAT BAND--playing their songs,
without the bitter, middle aged bitties blabbering in the background,
coulda been a fairly damned big rock nostalgia hit movie!
...And they coulda ALL scooped some major bucks out of it!

I woulda paid to have seen THAT movie!

As it is,
I have watched this thing, on cable,
four or five times now--always trying to turn the sound up and see if I can hear the band playing when they show them onstage...
and trying to ignore the 45-year-olds complaining...
but it's usually, actually, a Suzy Quatro song dubbed over, or something.

What a wasted opportunity.

You know What?
Guys like me are interested in real rocker girls
who really play the real deal
and not just pop gimmicky jokes like the Go-Gos

This band was better than the Donnas

and now Joan has a hair up her butt, for some stupid reason
and won't let me see them

DAMN!

Now I'M bitter!

She was not HUGE. She had 2 radio semi-hits, one aided by Ozzy. She's overrated and a huge bitch.

In Edgeplay Lita says she quit the band briefly in the beginning because Kim Fowley was an abusive idiot and she couldn't deal with him anymore. However, recently in her autobiography she says the real reason she quit is because all of the girls were gay, except for Jackie Fox. She thought they were going to hit on her and she freaked out and quit. It is still hard for me to believe that she didn't know what homosexuality was as she says. Even here in Louisiana in the 1970's I knew what homosexuality was, except people always used other not-so-polite words. Even in T.V. movie's like 'Born Innocent' back then you heard the words 'gay', 'dyke,' and 'fag.' Not to mention the lesbian rape scene in that movie.
