Release dates

Was this ever released in the UK? I thought it had been banned. Actually I was under the impression it was still banned. One of my main memories of the 80s is those pages you would get in magazines advertising all the porn/horror movies you could buy on import (Caligula, the Evil Dead, etc) and I seem to remember Derek and Clive leering out from among the pictures.

I've had it on video for quite a few years, but it's also available on DVD now:

It was actualy made for a cineam release but was refused a certificate by the BBFC so Peter Cook ended up releasing it on video where it was consificated by the Police in Manchester and the rest of the copies where impounded due to distribution company going bankcrupt. Some copies did make it to the public though, and know doubt if it had been available it would have fallen foul of the Video Recordings Act of 1984. I think it was finally passed with a video certificate in 1993.

The poster above me is absolutely correct. Aditionally, it was apparently shown late night on Channel 4 around about 1984; at the height of the channel's "edgy" days. This would have been it's first official "release" as it were.
