The little girl that says goodbye...

Hi, this is a superb animated film, I just wanted to find out, is the little girl at the end meant to be Leilah in the past, and if she is, how did Mr. D travel back in time and say: "I'm just fulfilling a promise that was made"?

If someone could explain this...

Thanks

reply

The little girl is Leila's granddaughter. The funeral is for Leila.

reply

Yeah, at first I thought the funeral was for the woman they were trying to save.. but without the father or brother there it didn't seem right. When the little girl is seen, I then thought Leila was her mother and might have been running late..

Being what D is... he must never age..

reply

This ending with the girl talking to D fits well as a conclusion of this emotional tale. Especially once you figure out that it is Leila's funeral that D is attending.

reply

Especially since they made a promise to eachother and D kept that promise after all these years.

reply

This is right. The little girl actually says it. D went to the funeral because of the promise they made to each other. Keep in mind, D does not age the way normal humans do.

reply

Well the little girl does say "I was wondering if you knew my grandmother, Leliah" or something like that.

The little blond girl was the final annoying touch to an overall annoying movie. ^_^

How was it annoying, PG?

One of my friends is convinced that Bloodlust is a prequel to the original movie, and the girl at the end is the same girl from the first movie as a child.

I personally don't think so, but it's a good theory.

reply

although she is not the same girl , bloodLust is a prequal to the 80's movie in the VHD timeline

untill now just two novel had been animated , hope to see more of D's epic Saga

reply

And your basing that on what? Do you even have any proof that says so??

reply

Well the first movie is based on the first Vampire Hunter D book, and this one is based on a later one...so RobGrayson tell your friend there crazy

it's pretty straightfoward. it's leila's grandaughter. it's not a funeral but at some point in the distant future after leila has died. Leila was afraid to die alone but following the story she settled down and had a family/kids..etc. D promised to return each year to put flowers at her grave...which he is doing in the final scene

Correction: that final scene in the film is most definitely meant to be Leila's funeral, complete with last rites for a female who has died, a casket in the ground, and mourners tossing flowers. Leila's granddaughter is present among the mourners and makes a specific point of asking D if he knew her grandmother.

Nice theory, but incorrect. There is zero connection between the two characters. This is pretty clear in the books upon which the films are based. The character design for Doris in the first film (much as I love that film) is atrocious. She's supposed to have long, flowing black hair and a decent wardrobe. Definitely no blonde "little girl" pigtails and panty-flashing!

reply

I'm sorry but what exactly was the promise D was suppose to fulfill?

reply

Attend Leila's funeral if she died before him so she would not die without any mourners.

Hi OP, summary from wikipedia.

"In the final scene of the movie, D arrives at Leila's funeral, watching from a distance. Leila's granddaughter greets him and invites him to stay with them for a while. D declines, saying that he simply came to "repay a favor to an old friend, who feared no one would mourn her death." He admitted he was glad she was wrong. The girl thanks him, and D replies by smiling gently at her, and leaves."
