I though it was an excellent movie.

The fighting sucked, but it had a good story.

Yeah, right, great movie.
Esp the scene with Zane on the bike.
Does he ever shut up?

And the work up to the final battle.
The good guys and their posing attacks.
I don't think I've ever seen worse choreography(sp?).

Worse martial arts movie EVAR!

reply

BAH! Rubbish! :p Trust me I'm a martial arts buff, I've seen hundreds of movies, and a hell of a lot worse than this one :p The effects and "ooooh" sort of atmosphere of this movie are pretty cool, and I thought the ending was pretty surreal, almost Mortal Kombat esque.

It's unfair to dis the choreography - the opening sword fight has fantastic moves. Ever tried to choreograph something? Honestly, it's harder than it looks. I don't wanna sound arrogant or anything, but I do a lot of amateur stuff, and choreography is a big part of it. It's very difficult to add realism and variety to a fight. And the mroe fights in the movie, the harder it gets, coz you need more and more ideas, and they have to flow smoothly in the fight. You can't follow a round house kick with a right hook, coz it'd look weird as hell :p If you get my meaning. I constantly dissect and observe the choreography in a movie, but never criticise it. I guess doing stuff makes you respect others who do it.

Anyway, back on topic, you guys shouldn't be so harsh on this movie, I mean Billy Zane is fantastic, and all that "fight him with love" crap is pure taoism and what I call "Chinese counter-theory", the kind of thing like "If you wanna go left, you gotta go right, if you wanna lift something up, you gotta push it down." sort of stuff. It's hard to get your head around, but it makes perfect sense. Ever done aikido? Same philosophy. So don't dis the plot or the script. It's a movie with a message, and not many have those these days :p

I agree with Calon. I like this movie. although it's a bit bored, it's made good. And Billy Zane played a very good role too.

I loved that movie. As a movie,I gave it an 8,but as a piece of art,it really teaches you.It had some great philosophical messages in there that really affected me in my life.I know it sounds kinda funny to say that for a martial-arts movie, but that's the way it was with me.

Now I wish I was wide awake for it. I watched it at like 2am at night and had it muted so I read the subtitles on the tv.

I thought it was yet another movie which had potential but decided to go down the cheesy path :(. It had this whole Xena, Hercules TV Series, Mortal Kombat vibe to it. I don't get why they decided to do it like that... Even the script, in all fairness, had a shot at being good... with some tweaks obviously...

I just found the movie funny overall... I missed the first part of it. But I was definitely disappointed with the way it continued throughout. I didn't expect anything from it either but ugh, how many movies out there have to have the potential to be good movies but end up getting a half assed production and direction?

Some of the fighting scenes were not too bad, even though there were few... some okay moves here and there... surprisingly decent compared to the tone and the way the rest of the movie was built up. But sometimes, it simply had too many cuts, which ruined it as well. Bits of it is nice, but not when you can barely see anything to start with :p.

Overall, a movie to watch when bored... It's definitely not as easy going as most of the "action" movies out there, but it's a laugh... If you're expecting anything out of the movie, you'll end up shutting it off after some minutes :D... but give it a chance :p.

You've got to at least watch it for the way all the fighters run :D... hands out... go go go.

The IDEA of the plot was decent.

The fight choreography was no worse than other tv movies.

But sweet mother of GOD, man.... the writing was the worst in freaking HISTORY! Don't believe me? I'll give two examples right now.

"Sweet, but temporary!"

and

"Not who, that."

The second one isn't proper grammer. I dare you to explain that second one in a way that makes anything resembling sense. While the first one just sounds like a Mortal Kombat villain after getting molested by a giant ape.

Keith Allen definitely saw this movie before taking the role in the UK Robin Hood series last year. The similarity with his bad guy Sheriff of Nottingham and the bad guy in this made me grin.

I didn't dislike the movie overall.

Besides, Dominic Purcell got half his kit off and that always works for me.

No offence, but what's funny about that? That's what martial arts is all about.
