I think somewhere between 6-7 is right for this film. I watched this when it came out on video in my adolescent years, and I found it to be an entertaining and thought-provoking movie. However, I think the reason it does poorly among most viewers is its inability to stand the test of time. They tried being a little fancy with some of the special effects when they should've kept them simple. Some of them look absolutely awful. This story could easily hold up, but the look of the film does not.
The XFL...that alone deducts a half point from the score. 6.4 sounds about right for this movie, no more, no less.
Movies aren't made to stand the test of time. They're made to make money in whatever era they come out in. In 20 years the next generation will be laughing at current day SFX. The SFX arent good by today's standard's but they were passable in 2000.
