American remake?

Just wondering if an American remake had or is going to be made of the film?

No, I wasn't saying it needed to be remade it's just I thought I had heard it was going to and I was curious if it had been followed through....

Now that you've mentioned it, here are my thoughts for the cast:

Leo Dicaprio, Matt Damon or Edward Norton - Cheung
Kevin Spacey, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Nicholas Cage or Hugh Jackman - Ho

After the success of The Departed, I wouldn't be surprised is they tried to remake this as well. So, here's my Cast/Crew:

Directed by Martin Scorsese
Written by Julien Carbon and Laurent Courtiaud (might as well bring them back!)
"The Inspector" (Ho): Hugh Jackman (definately agree with this one)
"The Thief" (Cheung): Eric Bana

This is a great film! Scorsese had his turn. I'd like to see Michael Mann direct and cast (interesting choices)Don Cheadle or Clive Owen or Robert Downey Jr. as the inspector and, heck, bring Andy Lau back as Cheung or if he must cast someone else how about Ed Norton, Jared Ledo or Billy Crudup.

Scorsese and Mann are pretty safe choices for the genre, but how aboout someone like Christopher Nolan? He's proven he can handle the genre pretty well with "Memento."

As for acting parts, I've only seen about half of the movie (the player wouldn't go beyond that because it's old and cranky, and the disc was messed up), but I think Kevin Spacey would work as either the bad guy or the inspector.

Chances are, if it did get remade, Peter Hyams would probably do it. These kind of movies are more or less his stock-in-trade.

If they are going to remake this movie, please don't turn this into an action movie or it is going to be just horrible.

This movie is about the story and characters. I believe there are similar genre in US movies before so they should be able to do it but the director needs to be smart and the writer can change the story but don't mess it up. Directing is the key here because what made this movie enjoyable is because some of the subtle details were described very well. Many US movies are made with a lot of emotional details so I really would not mind an US remake for this.
