Terrible lip syncing.


Why is it so bad? The old video was like it too, not just the DVD.

The lip sync is bad because it isn't lip sync mate. This is what we in post-production call ADR...Additional Dialogue Recording. That's what happens when for example the sound didn't come out right during the filming or if they need to change a line and can't or don't want to shoot the scene over again, they just get the actor into the post-production studio to rerecord the lines or record new lines to substitute the old ones.

In some instances it's even a different actor doing the ADR because the original actor's accent or voice is so bad or incomprehensible that they needed someone else to do his lines for him. I have a film in mind as an example of that, but for the life of me I can't remember which!

An example would be Gozer in Ghost Busters. The fashion model playing Gozer had such a thick accent that they had to overdub her lines using a different voice actor.

Often you have to overdub lines when environmental noise (like wind, sea, traffic) obscures the dialogue.
