Help

I am hoping this is the film ive been after for the better part of ten years, is there a scene in it with the man drunk waiting for a cab by a light when 2 women start to get harassed by some blokes and he decides to help them only to get beat up and end up in the hospital with one of the women waiting for him.

This should be near begining, also near end he is driving with a woman in a car when they stop at a gas station and he see's a tv there with images of him and he ends up driving back to the person he realised he is really in love with.
