What the hell happened to...

...syndicated action series. I mean there isn't even one on the air right now. Hell, back in the 1998-1999 season there was Baywatch,PSIFactor,Viper,The Crow, Mortal Kombat:Conquest,Pensacola:Wings of Gold,Xena,Hercules,Air America,Honey I Shrunk The Kids,Nightman,Earth:Final Conflict,V.I.P.,Special Ops Force,Highlander:The Raven and Robin Hood. Now granted not all of the shows were good and they had a shoestring budget, but a lot of them were entertaining and it was something to watch on the weekends. Does anyone know why they completely stopped producing these kinds of shows?

I love Beastmaster, but for some reason they left it hanging at the end. Why didn't they keep going?

I saw the end but didn't want to spoil it for others by posting details here, which is why my post might be a bit confusing.

I know what you mean, every fall I would look inside my tvguide and go directly to the syndication section to see what new/returning shows was going be on, now I don't think that they even have that section anymore. I think that the last show of it's kind was Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, which I liked. The reason that these type of shows don't exist anymore is that nobody wants to pay for them.

What I think sucks is that not only do they not have action syndicated shows on tv anymore is that there are hardly any action/adventure shows on tv period, a few here and there but not a lot them. Hell, they have SciFi channel, I've heard something a horror/suspense channel, what the hell about an action/adventure network to have shows that are in vain of Herc or Xena. Buy the rights to Universal tv's Action Pack and turn that into a network for action/adventure shows that what I would do.

I read that the reason Beastmaster was canceled, even though it was in like the top 5 at the time, was because they wanted to make room for reality shows. They figured that even though it was still popular, that type of show was on it's way out, so they just canceled it. What doesn't make sense is, how many reality shows are even on on Saturday anyway? IDIOTS!!

Young hit the nail on the head. Reality TV, with it's low production costs have pretty much killed drama/action/adventure/scifi shows made specifically for syndication. Luckily, there has been a turn around in network TV produced shows of this nature (Lost, Heroes, Alias, etc) that the genre hasn't gone away for good. It's probably is going to take some kind of revolution in production methods before we see made for syndication shows of this nature again though. The best we can hope for right now is 3-5 year old cable tv reruns or foreign imports.

An episode of Beastmaster turned up on the afternoon programming on the Showcase network (Region 1) a couple of days ago (February 20/07). It's reportedly been shown in Australia and the UK recently as well as the SciFi channel. As well a new compilation of the three seasons of the show has been released by DVDDiesel.

It's still out there.

Man, it's devastating to see that they booted it off the air to make room for usually non-substanceful, unscripted, no-effort-put-into-production reality shows. That makes me sick.

Wasn't there a midget and giant wrestler type guy in the first season or was that another show? If not why did the show change so drasticly?

reply

Never mind that was Conan I was thinking of.

reply

don't forget about "QUEEN OF SWORDS" it lasted only season, and they aired the ep. out of order.

reply

Because TV sucks now.

It's been a few years now. 2013. And still no syndicated action shows. The genre up and died hard. SUX At least they made an ass load of it. I'm still finding new old shows to watch.
