I liked the movie. I think the story was very good and the acting OK. I didn't like the shakey camera thing... and think they could have done so much better with the story they had to work with.
But all in all.... a pretty good film. Kept me entertained for a couple of hours when I was home alone.
'Movies...... Gotta love em!'.... hmmmm.... So if I went out in a pasture and filmed a pile of manure for two hours, with the usual buzzing flies (for effect), then showed it (especially on the Sc-Fi Channel) you'd probably like it?... oops... love it.
Generally speaking, you don't have to 'love' movies because someone made one, especially ANYTHING with Lou Diamond Phillips OR Lori Petty (post 'A Leaugue of Their Own'). It was pointless, although being brain dead for a couple of hours isn't always a bad thing. On the positive side, I've seen worse before and will probably see worse in the future. I give it a 1/10 stars....
Second opinion. Just watched it after not seeing it for years (it was onDemand). I have to say that the only thing I liked about it was the Zombie Miner makeup and costume. Thought that they were reminiscent of Shock Waves. Very creepy looking. But man, for a cast of mostly veteran actors no one seems to be taking the movie seriously and the movie is filled with plot hole after plot hole. Characters also make some incredibly stupid decisions. And that fight scene with Phillips and the dude from Pet Semetary was one of the worst fight scenes I have ever seen. I can't believe I actually liked this at one point. Must have been drunk.
Overall, Zombie Miners good, film itself not so good.
"So if I went out in a pasture and filmed a pile of manure for two hours"
I've actually seen a movie of two horses in a pasture once. No cuts or anythign. Just two horses in a pasture munching away at grass. Well actually I only saw some of it. I sat through ten minutes just to see if anything would happen. Nope.
I gotta admit that I really like this funky little fright flick as well. It's a fun B-horror item that does the trick quite nicely. I especially enjoyed the nifty cameo appearances by veteran character actors Dick Miller and L.Q. Jones in small roles. Moreover, Steven Williams was very funny, Lori Petty had spunky charm to spare, and Lou Diamond Phillips gave one of his less stolid and more agreeable performances. I too didn't care for the annoying shaky cam stuff, but overall it's an entertaining horror romp.
I agree with Sci-fi showing much worse films. Some films they show I can't sit through for 5 minutes, at least with this I can watch for 40 minutes or so.
IMO, this movie has 2 saving graces that makes me stand it a little while longer when I'm about to turn it off...1) Lou Diamond Phillips and Lori Petty. Love these actors. Their performances weren't the greatest, but didn't detract from the film, not any more than the script, premise, and plot lol. And 2) The music. That's pretty much what stopped me from changing the channel, the music got me within the first couple minutes.
I don't see how anybody could give it a 10/10 though. I would go as far as saying 5/10, something in that neighborhood.
Oh dear! This movie was really fun to watch. Especially the scenes with the zombie prisoners. The cinematic motions, the music, and the look of the zombies went perfectly together. That alone got 7 of the 10 votes I gave it. But the intro scene with those assassins was also cool and funny, I couldn't stop laughing at how awesome it was. The other 3 votes came from the acting which was so freaking awesome and cool. Especially from Rabitt and Jack. I wish they made more movies like this I'd watch it all day.
