Jacob's Mass Suicude scene

At the end of the movie, Barry discusses what happened to the characters. He talks about Jacob organizing a mass Suicude pact, and giving its member cyanide disguised as Kool-aid. I wonder if the director knew that something like this happened in Guyana: in real life: except that there were 918 victims-1/3 of them children. The organizer of this mass suicide pact was named Jim Jones who ironically have the same personality as Jacob in this movie. Personally, I would have preferred if he died instead of those 918 victims. Each time when US representative Leo Ryan tried to visit Guyana to investigate Jim Jones, the U.S. Government would not allow it. I hope that the director realizes that family of the victims are still out there and that airing that scene could be viewed as making a mockery of a tragic event that occurred in history.

The director is aware, I'm sure, and I don't believe he is making a mockery. The point of the scene was to show this psychopath drank his own Kool-Aid first, stupidly, and other people are smart enough to change their mind. It was a joke upon the nature of the Jacob character, not to make light of cults or people who have died because of them.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

Obviously it was modeled after the Jim Jones incident. Those people were brainwashed idiots. That's the whole point.

I laughed and laughed. Mass suicides and starving babies are the two funniest things in the world.

The movie Road Trip is not necessarily what 'really happened' to the characters in the movie, as it is told through the character Tom Green's eyes (well mouth) so chances are pretty great that that was just one thing he made up.

As far as the morality of the scene goes, it was 21 years prior to when the movie was made and in time pretty much anything can be used to turn into a joke.

Charlie Chaplin did the movie THE GREAT DICTATOR parodying Adolf Hitler and his antics in 1941 which was in the middle of him trying to conquer the world.

Also it wasn't like they did the scene exactly like it happened and made fun of the dead people, instead they only had the leader killed and the others realised what a croc of sh!t that cult (or any other cult) really is.
