Why is there a fraternity full of only black people? Isn't that racist?

Isn't it racist that the "black" fraternity has no white people in it? I'm sure they had white students apply to join but they probably rejected them for "made up" reasons when in reality we all know why... if a white frat did the same they would clearly be labeled racist. Double standards.

1) People of any race can be racist.
2) No one should be racist.
3) It's a silly comedy movie, you're over thinking things - and I don't remember the frat guys saying only black people CAN be in their fraternity, it just so happened it was mostly/all black guys.
To be honest I didn't even think about it until I read this post, was it only black guys? Not that it matters.
Stop picking fights based on race, OP.

Is it sexist to have only one gender in them?

That's not the same thing. Men and women invariably choose to live with their own gender because they actually are different! Anatomically, hormonally, often emotionally.

I don't think that the black fraternity in this movie has a requirement to be African American. A group of black students started it, happened to only invite their friends who were black and it rolled on from there. I doubt they would exclude a nice person who was any other race than black. No non-black members seem to be joined yet.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

This is my guess, although I don't know this for sure. There are some which are traditionally black, like the one in the movie, I just don't know if they have a policy of not allowing anyone else. There was an Asian fraternity on our campus. I don't think they only accepted Asians, it was just that everyone else knew they were traditionally Asian so no one else would rush them. There was also a Christian fraternity on campus. Obviously it would not have made sense for any Jewish people to join since they would be joining a house based on a different ideology than the one they believed in.

There are several "black only" fraternities. Yes it's racist. But if you complain about it than you're called racist yourself. Of course there can't be any "white only" fraternities. The last one that tried was voted off campus.

There are predominantly black fraternities. It is not racist, but is racial. Racist denotes a negativity &/or an inferiority. Please know the definitions. BTW, I am white.

I knew of several black fraternities at 2 universities that I went to. That was in the 1980s.

Do these fraternities allow whites to join? Because if not, that is racist, plain and simple.

reply

White people who cry racism and desperately wanting to be oppressed are sickening to me. Systematic racism will never effect you, now go away troll.

Racism does not have to be systematic to be racism. Prejudice towards a group based on ethnicity is wrong no matter what ethnicity it happens to be.

That being said, I don't see a traditionally African-American fraternity as racist. To my knowledge anyone can rush, they are just traditionally black so whites tend to go elsewhere. If they have a policy not to accept white people that would be unfortunate, and it would also be racist, but I don't think that is what is happening here.
