Dance music

What is the title of the dance music playing at the Van Tassel party? That Ichabod and Katrina dance to?

reply

If this is the version I think it is, I believe the song is titled "La Belle Catherine". It is also very similar to the song "The Muffin Man".

I looked up "La Belle Catherine" on youtube, and that doesn't seem to be the song I'm looking for. Or is there different versions of "La Belle Catherine?"

Also, it's really hard to find "The Muffin Man" considering how famous the kid's song is. Can you show me a link to the song or something?

reply

A version of "La Belle Catherine" is on the "More Music From Gettysburg" soundtrack. It has been so long since I saw "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", I may be off base in thinking that is the song...but I do remember thinking it was when I heard it. I am going to try to order LSH this week, and will pay particular attention to the song. As far as "The Muffin Man" goes, I don't have a link but will hunt around and try to find one. Stay tuned....

Thank you!

I do wish that the movie at least put the song in the credits, that way I'd know for sure. The reason I want to know is because there is a musical version of Sleepy Hollow, and I'm thinking of directing it someday. The dance music in this movie is so good that if I did direct this onstage, I'd really like to use it. Just so you can see where I'm coming from.

reply

I want to own the movie because A)I enjoy it and B)I want to be able to learn the dance steps so I can teach it. I am a dance mistress for several Civil War reenactment clubs, and am always looking for new 18th and 19th century dances to teach. Wait...that sounds strange...a "new" dance from past eras, LOL. Well, you know what I mean! Anyway, the dance itself looks great, at least until Ichabod goes off on his tangent. I'm planning to stop by our local Sam Goody after work today to see if they can order it for me. If not, I believe Amazon has it.

I never knew there was a musical version -- sounds cool! Tell me more about it.

OK...one I found is: www.kdiddles.com/lyrics/m027.html

Does this sound sorta-kinda like the dance tune? As I said before, it's been a long time since I saw the movie, but I do remember thinking the dance tune sounded familiar at the time.

I will look for other links...

reply

The link doesn't really work, sorry.

Anyways, about the musical, I already started a thread about it on this movie. Check it out sometime.

reply

Sorry the link didn't work. I went to Sam Goody on my lunch hour, and they didn't even have the movie in their computer! Now what? Amazon.com, I guess. After that, I'm out of options, unless you know where I can get it.

reply

You can get pretty much anything on Amazon.com, so I think that's a good option. Either that or eBay.

reply

Right, then -- going to the site now ~

reply

Have you checked out the musical yet? I know you seemed interested.

reply

I did goto the site, but couldn't look around too long -- the only computer I have access to right now is at work, since mine at home fried. I'll go back during my lunch hour and have a better look-see.

reply

Okay. Well, have you found anything more on the violin dance music?

reply

I ordered the DVD -- it hasn't arrived yet. The movie was playing on ION Friday night, but my husband wanted to watch that 7 hour "Ghost Hunters" thing where they were at Fort Delaware (it had been used as a prison camp during the Civil War), so I didn't get to watch it.

reply

Okay, let me know then.

reply

Hey, remember our discussion some months back about the dance music? I finally got the DVD and yes, the music is "La Belle Catherine".

I used to work at a place called old sturbridge village and I recognized the song. You can here it at this website:

hope this helps!

reply

Thanks! Which song is it on the list?

reply

I'm pretty sure its #11 (la Belle Catherine)

reply

It sounds KINDA like it does in the movie...was it in a different arrangement? I'm trying to find the exact version.
