Who LOVES this game?

This was one of the first real computer games my brother and I ever played and we played it and played it and played it until either the disc didn't work anymore or the newer computer couldn't install it. I love it, it was so funny, especially with the rotten tomato, and I love the puzzles, except the floor one, I can almost never figure that one out...and it was spooky in the Isle of the Dead, and it's exciting, it's everything a game should be. Word came out a while back that they're working on the Sierra games so they can work on newer computers and I hope they can get it done with King's Quest VI soon. I think it's got to be one of THE greatest computer games ever made. What's everybody else think?

This was the game which introduced me to the KQ uinverse and I agree that it is everything gaming should be. But I prefer KQ4 because that was one really under-rated game. Plus, Rosella is much more sassier and interesting to play as than mushy old Alex!

Agreed, this game was incredible. Loved the setting, characters were interesting and frequently hilarious, the voice acting was top-notch (an absolute rarity for the time the game was released), pretty much everything was done to perfection with this title.

For the original poster, if you're having difficulty playing King's Quest VI on today's machines, I'd like to tell you about a wonderful little app called ScummVM. It will play all of your King's Quest and other Sierra titles easily, as well as old LucasArts adventure games! Just google ScummVM and you'll find it. You could also try DosBox, although you'll likely run into some trouble with that one. Cheers!

I agree with you. It is one of my FAVORITE games ever. If there ever is a National Video Game Registry(run by the Library of Congress) that preserves video games for future generations it would be my number nominated video game. Since there is no registry yet I recommend writing a letter to the Librarian of Congress so he creates a National Video Game Registry then you can nominate it and the other King's Quest games to be preserved for every generation.

I can tell you quite a story involving my introduction to this game.

I was about 10 or 11 when the Church I went to at the time got a new Windows 3.1 computer...and with it came copies of the following games: Myst, Dino something 3D, The 7th Guest, and King's Quest 6. I know Myst has a fan following but I didn't care for it or 7th Guest...and the dino 3d thing was forgettable at best aside of a badass intro that rings the PC Speaker in my ear drums to this day.

Anyways, King's Quest 6...Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow...totally badass.

From the moments I watched Alex and the mirror to his ship sinking and waking up on shore...the masterful interface of one of the first PC games I've EVER played and got so little time and exposure {an hour a week} to play it...it was painful...

I got as far as the minotaur with the help of my friend Clark who was in the Choir at the time and was my ride home when I could occasionally get that extra hour to play {which seemed like 5 minutes at most...}.

Fast Forward to August of 1995 when we got our brand new Windows 95 computer!!! I had it at home now! I asked if I could have the copy of KQ6 and the Church gladly relinquished it because they were getting tired of me coming in and playing it unsupervised! I knew where the secret key was to the office! Got it installed on the home computer and was in heaven. Let's just say I used that hing 99% of the time it was on.

Beating this game made me fall in love with the song at the end...despite it being catchy and memorable prior to the game.

Anyone have an experience to share involving this or any early PC games?

My mom bought us a computer (a 386 for any of the 30+ crowd out there) using some kind of payment plan through her work.

I was soooo excited! We set it up, and she had bought me a gift along with the computer, KQVI.

We had the Atari, and the NES, but it was KQVI that made me fall in love with games. I never knew they could tell such beautful stories and transport me into their world.

The humour, the action, the drama... the game had everything. When the Lord of the Dead shed that single tear I can remember a swell of emotion inside me.

My uncle also gave me his old Infocom collection, and it had all of their best games, I think there was 30. So my intro to PC gaming was a cutting edge adventure game (KQVI) and text only Infocom classics, it was a great start!

Anyway, this cake is great. It's so delicious and moist.

We seem to have followed a similar cultural upbringing, haha. Are you 30ish? (I'm 31).

I LOVED Castle of the Winds and Solar Winds. I spent a long time on those games. And I didn't play a lot of D&D games, but I also played Darksun A LOT. Quest for Glory games were amazing. QFG4 had John Rhys-Davies (from Sliders!) as the hilarious narrator, so that added a whole other level for me. Did you play the Space Quest games though? Comedy sci-fi games!

There's only about 3 or 4 names on your list I don't recognise.

Also, your signature is a quote from Ash(ley) and I named my son Ash(ton) after that character. Haha. We're brothers(?) from another mother.

I am 29 and love games even to this day. Some of the latest greats are Dragon Age and Mass Effect, though I am still pissed about the ending to mass effect 3. Oh well, they won't change it, and it's obvious Bioware is moving away from the original trilogy.

I think the name Ash will be one I consider for my kid some day.
