Pot vs. Alcohol?

I just finished a 5 week truck driving course and one instructor drove home the fact that we will be driving with other drivers who were like us at one time. He meant think of your worst night after drinking or doing drugs trying to drive or just the time you got in an accident or were joy riding at high speeds. Most of us have done something like that at one time.

I don't smoke pot any more, but when I did I drove more cautiously than any of the other times I could think of. It is still general opinion that that is also not safe. I definately would rather see someone smoking a joint next to my truck than drinking some Jack Daniels. Alcohol is definately more dangerous. Pot makes you feel like what you are doing is out of control maybe the first few times but it's better than alcohol which blurs your vision and makes it so you turn the wheel to far and can't hold your head up straight.

On the flip side, I don't know if I would want to drive a 70 ton load while half baked. Truck drivers have to be quick and look out for other cars on the road that don't realize what they are doing when cutting us off and hiding in our blind spots. If you measure it for people who have to operate heavy machinery and vehicles you will never see it legalized. If it were legal, the patient or user would have to take time off work and return with a doctor slip. Maybe it isn't worth legalizing with all the hassles.

reply

Are you kidding? Clearly noone should be drinking or smoeking while driving, especially a big rig. That really isn't a reason not to legalize it. While it will probably be difficult to monitor or enforce laws that ban smoking while driving I'm sure there are ways. That being said I think for now decriminalization is the goal. Our jails are already full and there is no reason to make criminals out of those who smoke pot.

reply

if no one should go to jail for smoking it and it isn't legal then i think no one should go to jail for cultivating it either.
most people know pot tends to increase your conscience while alcohol does reverse.

i don't smoke but i do drink and maybe if pot was legal i could smoke and not drink :D

Isn't life just sad and ironic? To think of the hours I've spent being high as hell and trying to figure out why the government (and my own damn alcoholic family) picks on an innocent stoner like me. Weed is just not socially acceptable, and ONLY on the basis that it's not legal. Well... *beep* the rules. I've found something profound in weed, and I'm stickin' to it. Haven't had a drink in over two years (since I started smoking). And I can now drive myself home after a long night.

On a side note... I just came up with a stoner film of my own that takes a different approach to your typical stoner film. Don't know what I'm gonna call it. Haven't even written the whole plot down yet. But it's gonna be clever, and it's gonna be good. And I'll, ah... just... just... I'll get back to you when I got the dough to put it together.

Weed. Keep smokin' it.

Amen to that. It's all about legality and the moronic social unacceptance of such a beautiful, incredible drug (as proven by that dumbass statement you quoted). Imagine it legalized, kids with cancer, people with glaucoma FINALLY having a drug that works the right way to help ease their pain. KEEP BLAZING AMERICA! *beep* THE COPS.

No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

really the only time some one should be High and working, is if they are an artist that can handle doing art and being high, making music, making a picture... or some other type of Art creation that some one can function doing while stoned.

but if your operating heavy machinery of any type, unless you have a death wish don't do it, and not even on prescription drugs too.

How about if they just don't give a damn and deliver pizzas stoned all day? Oh wait, thats me.

if your job doesnt involve the safety of others directly (in other words, not like "oh, you might hurt a co-worker cuz your high" or some dumb $hit like that), its fine to work high. ive done it many times. sometimes its easier to focus. just depends on the person. if you cant handle it, someone will notice that youre slipping. if so, stop!

True. I worked high all the time when I was at the video store. What was I gonna do? Drop a video on someone's foot? The only reason I'm not high right now is because my boss would be able to tell... and I don't want to get fired. If you know you can do the job at hand while stoned... and you want to be stoned... you should be able to smoke some pot. I'm doing a side job tonight... and I plan on getting pretty baked beforehand. It's sorta engineering... which pot helps, because it lets me zone in on the job.

I disagree. I smoke everyday and I am the store manager of a retail business. I KNOW I could do my job high, but this isn't free time. I could probably listen to an iPod and do all sorts of stuff and still do my job, but the point is that someone is paying you to do a task and only that task. You are on their time and unless they don't mind, you shouldn't be high. You can make the same arguement for uniforms. I can do this job without a tie on or in a pair of jeans, but it's not up to me.

That's true. I'm only a bagger at our local grocery store, but I'll sometimes smoke a bowl before I go into work. I feel looser and a lot more sociable, and less likely to become impatient with a customer. And what's great is that the assitant managers know I smoke and don't mind at all. It sucks that a negative light is cast over marijuana. I'm about to graduate high school in a few months and I found out yesterday that I'm #9 in my class of about 350. I've been smoking since my sophomore year, and I've become a regular smoker in the past 6 months. Show me a downside. In fact, yesterday during first period, our principal requested me and nine of mine friends to report to his office. When we made it to the conference room, we all took a seat and absorbed the honorable comments he and the assistant principal had to say to the top 10 of Winder-Barrow's (my school) class of '08. Of the ten in the room, I know 3 of us are regular pot smokers: me (#9), my friend Justin (#6), and our valedictorian Griff. All three of us are going to college with scholarships and have a full road of potential. So show me a fault...

Pot is way less harmful than alcohol no doubt about it! It really does need to be decriminalized or legalized because its just getting ridiculous. People are going to smoke the ganja whether its legal or not, i say they should keep the prices the same and use half of the price to be tax money. Pot is cheap and easy to grow and grows almost in spite of you so it could really help our economy.

The illegalization of marijuana is absurd and, as bill hicks would say, it's a war against our civil rights. You just can't tell someone that they cannot inhale the combusted products of a plant. It's their body and there's no negative imposition on others. Obviously exceptions can be dredged up, but seriously, marijuana is a positive drug.

Putting people with marijuana related crimes in jail is beyond ridiculous and is a testament to the lack of reason and logic inherent in our jailing systems. They're in there for a couple of months to a couple of years and then slotted back into society. It's insane! I like to call it the 'Rape and Release' program. These guys go in, get raped and potentially gang-banged and beaten by freaks, and then are released. Normal (okay, at least not a real threat to society) guys come out much worse than they went in. This is not reform and can lead to worse crimes. An objective, third perspective would observe this as horribly unintelligent and perhaps contributing to the preclusion of social evolution.

This may appear tinged with anger and condescension, and it should. This really gets under my skin. Weed is a chance gift from nature that some people are depriving themselves of because some uber conservative, insecure prudes say so. It happens to have the right chemistry to mentally uplift us and usually inspire an exaggerated sense of creativity (maybe not during the peak, but certainly during the slow and steady decline). Marijuana is, with regard to humans, a positive drug; alcohol does nothing for you except dumb everything down and make you comfortable with doing and saying, well, anything really.

Peace, time to read some Sagan and toke up! :)

PS: just kidding, I would never do that. Just kidding about that, too. And that......ad infinitum...muhahahaha
