Prequel!

Does anyone else think that the next Walking With should be a prequel to Dinosaurs? It would be great to see the creatures from the Palaeozoic. They could start with Burgess Shale in the Cambrian (530 million years ago) and end with the Permian Extinction (245 mya).

Help! I lost some weight and I can't find it anymore!

If you're in the UK, then watch out for "Walking with Monsters". It airs for the first time on BBC 3 at 8:20 on 5 November.

Sounds like it'll be just what you're looking for :-)

reply

They really should make that to complete the Walking With series. It would be really cool to see giant killer amphibians, armoured sharks, and other creatures that came before the dinosaurs.

I just have seen Walking With Monsters on Discovery Channel. It was absolutely awesome.

For the americans here, you can get it on region 2 DVD from Monday:

I actually recorded it when it aired on Discovery channel on a DVD.

I just saw the series will premiere on BBC One on December 8! I'm Dutch, but luckily we also recieve the BBC here. Too bad they're gonna stuff it in 3 episodes instead of 6, which worked great in Dinosaurs and Beasts. Looks like they'll cover multiple timezones in one episodes, which might feel a little rushed. Then again, it didn't bother me in Sea Monsters! I'm looking forward!

I actually thought this was BETTER than Dinosaur Planet and Walking With Dinosaurs. It matched Walking With Beasts. It was absolutely excellent-the music, CGI, and basically everything was simply outstanding. The epsisodes were shorter than the ones in WWD and WWB but still as good or better.

Here's a list of all the episodes or parts and the creatures in them:

Cambrian 530 MYA-Anomalocaris, Trilobite, Hycoichthys (sp?)
Silurian 478 MYA-Cephalaspis, Brontoscorpio, Pterygotus, Giant Orthocone
Devonian 360 MYA-Hinerpeton, Hyneria, Stethacanthus
Carboniferous 300 MYA-Megarachne or Mesothelae (forget which one) Arthropleura, Petrolacosaurus, unknown amphibian (probably Eryops), Meganeura
Early Permian 275 MYA-Dimetrodon, Edaphosaurus, unknown amphibian (probably Seymouria)
Late Permian 250 MYA-Giant Gorganopsid, Scutosaurus, Diiactodon, Giant Laberynthodont
Early Triassic 248 MYA-Lystrosaurus, Euparkeria, Therocephalian, Chasmatosaurus

Creatures: 26
Episodes: 7
MYA: Millions of Years Ago

Excellent! I do wish they included Pikaia (first vertebrate) and Hylonomus (first reptile), but otherwise it looks great!

By the way, I think we can expect a complete Walking With DVD boxset somewhere in the future, as WWM fills the last remaining gap in natural history.

Pikaia evolved 545 million years ago but 15 million years later Hycoicthys evolved from it and was the first ever fish. Hylonomus probably evolved into Petrolacosaurus-who was basically one of the first reptiles.

I also hope that they make a Walking With Collection with everything.

This is just to get this thread at the top of the list. Wow Walking With Dinosaurs is really growing there are even 2 pages!

Add Opabinia to the Cambrian episode!

reply

Opabinia rocks! I love that extendable mouth thing.

Opabinia is without doubt one of the coolest monsters in the Cambrian.

reply

when is this going to be in DVD? anyone knows?

reply

On WWM, yes. I pretty sure you can buy it on amazon or BBC (I think it's probably around 20 dollars). I'm not going to bother to do so since I already recorded it when it aired on the Discovery Channel.

reply

ok, thanks EugeandSasha

reply

It's spelled Haikouicthys I believe. The Carboniferous amphibian is a Proterogyrinus. And the spider IS a Mesothelae.

reply

Where did you find that information on what the creatures were in WWM, so far I haven't found a good site on it.

It's on the Wikipedia.

WWM is a great series, and almost as good as WWD, except for it being too rushed, and there being some stupid CSI like zoom-ins on body parts.
