Fav. Episode

What is your favourite WWD Episode?

reply

my favorite was the allosaurus special

reply

Mine would be either "Cruel Sea" or "Land of the Titans". All the episodes are excellent in my opinion.

reply

Can't pick.....

War is simply the continuing of diplomacy through other means

reply

New Blood and Cruel Sea. The music and the landscapes are just so inspiring.

reply

Well, I can't really decide, but I like Giant of the Skies. I didn't like the ending, but the scenes, dinosaurs, pterosaurs are so great -and you get a Plesioliopleurodon too! I like Time of the Titanes too.

reply

I personnally think that the Allosaurus Special was better than any episode in WWD.

reply

Honestly you guys, the Giant Claw is the best!Or maybe Death of a Dynasty.

reply

Oh yeah I forgot about Chased By Dinosaurs. In my opinion CBD is better then WWD and DP.

reply

Isn't Chased by Dinosaurs a compilation of Sea Monsters, The Giant Claw and Land of Giants?

War is simply the continuing of diplomacy through other means

reply

No I'm pretty sure Giant Claw and Land of Giants are part of Chased By Dinosaurs. Sea Monsters was another movie altogether.

reply

Chased by Dinosaurs is simply a title given to the two edited versions of Nigel Marven dinosaur specials by Discovery, which are part of the Walking with Dinosaurs series in the UK. "Seamonsters" was a seperate series there as well, and was billed in the U.S "Chased by Sea Monsters" as if it were a sequel.

Fav episode thus far, upto 4, is "Cruel Sea" which surprisingly l gave my worse rating to so far 9/10. The other three are all 10/10 in my book of sorrows. Still have two episodes to view on the R4 DVD package.

Unfort besides "The Ballard of Big Al" it appears the additional addon docos are not available down here :( I've just email our ABC (the equiv in Oz of the BBC) demanding they be released. A box set would be cool, but l'm fine with separate purchases.

I liked all of the episodes of Walking With Dinosaurs.

Can't believe nobody said "Spirits of the Ice Forest"....That was the episode to which i was like "omg....that was Antarctica!!!!!!"

reply

Cruel Sea. But they're all astounding. Except for the Nigel Marven ones.

1. Giant of the Skies- I know it's not necessary for an educational documentary, but this episode actually had a well told story.
2. Death of a Dynasty- Tyrannosaurus Rex. Honestly.
3. Time of the Titans- Most... familiar of the series. I don't really know why.
4. Cruel Seas- Watching a Eustreptospondylus snatched up by a giant Liopleurodon is strangely humbling.
5. New Blood- Good start.
6. Spirits of the Ice Forest- I don't know why, but despite the Antarctica setting and the Koolasuchus, it didn't really stay with me. I'll attribute it to the fact that the main dinosaurs- the Leaellynasaura and the unnamed allosaur aren't really all that spectacular (by now we had already seen its mightier Jurassic cousin), while the Muttaburrosaurus didn't get enough screen time.

As much as I liked the whole series, SotIF bugged me too, because of its focusing on those (well, it may not be right to say this, but...) "boring" creatures, but I guess they thought the more interesting fauna of the Lower Cretaceous was already covered in GotS. I don't want to sound period-discriminating here, but an episode featuring the Lower Jurassic, or if we have to stick to the Cretaceous, the South-American giants (instead of the Nigel-filled LoG) would have left a better taste in my mouth. All thing considered, SotIF smells like a filler episode.
