Walking With Dinosaurs.... THE MOVIE

Apparently 20th Century Fox and BBC have teamed up to make a feature-length Walking With Dinosaurs.
Maybe this'll finally get them to re-master the series for BluRay.

Supposedly out late 2012 or 2013, the film has ten times the budget of the original TV series, and sounds like it'll be a bit more emotional in tone. I'm a massive fan of Walking With Dinosaurs but since then the study of dinosaurs has moved on quite a bit so it isn't as scientifically accurate anymore. Must say I'm excited to see what intriuging new ideas they'll bring to the table from the latest in palaeontology. I expect a lot of feathers.

Here's hoping they put in the effort and research that went into making the original such a landmark event.
Oh, and that they can make the dinosaurs appear photo-real. Industrial Light & Magic, expect a call if they're doing this right.

Ahhh, the Mesozoic in 3D... can't wait!

Oh, waitaminute... the effects are being done by "Evergreen Films."
Yeah, I've never heard of them either, but apparently they did the stuff for When Dinosaurs Roamed America and the related Discovery shows... which all featured dinosaurs that looked absolutely terrible.

I hope that with more funds they'll be able to afford the time and care to make creatures which look believable and not like they've stepped out of a cheap videogame. They're doing the 3D too. Good luck to em.

I know!

I hope they stick with Framestore and the Impossible Pictures team of the original WWD series!! I have to say, their work keeps getting better all the time with each new installment of da series, unlike Meteor Studios and Evergreen Films...

It had better be them or so help me gawd....

Honestly, I'm more interested to see how the movie will be presented, what kind of story it would have, than how it will look.

Both are important. Hopefully the CGI will replicate or better that of Disney's attempt at Dinosaurs but with a good script. Maybe no narration would benefit and instead you follow the emotional journey more of certain dinosaurs.

Evergreen arent doing the effects. Animal Logic is.

What I really liked about the series is that they managed to tell personal tales of individual dinosaurs without having to make them anthropomorphic and with only a bit of dialogue. Right now I'm wondering: 'How are they going to do that in a full length feature film?' The episodes were only 30 minutes long but it's a challenge to do an interesting story with animals that can't talk.

Also, is it going to be set in one period of the dinosaurs or is it going to leap across time to show the evolution? Like in Walking with Monsters or When Dinosaurs Roamed America. It's easy to do that in a documentary but a movie needs to have a certain structure.

Of course I'm also thrilled to see Walking With Dinosaurs in an updated version, both in CGI and in scientific accuracy. A lot has changed in 11 years, especially the discoveries of all those feathered dinosaurs. The pterosaur documentary with David Attenborough called Flying Monsters was stunning, so I know it's going to be amazing to see dinosaurs in 3D

I think it would be nice to include some dinosaurs that had previously been used in the series to give the viewers some nostalgic feeling but they should also use some new dinosaurs and new locations. It would be interesting to see a recently discovered dinosaur being introduced to the general public. They did the same in Flying Monsters with a specie called Darwinopterus.

If they go at it in the style of the series, they'd better damn well get Kenneth Branagh back as a narrator. His narrations are part of the reason what made the three "Walking With" shows so memorable for me.
