WHY did they pick Kristin Kreuk?

I know this question has been asked many times, and yes there are a minority of people who look like in in both Pakistan and Northwest India (these aren't races - the majority being Punjabi's and Kashmiri's in both Northwest India and Pakistan).

She could look like a Hazara in Pakistan and Afghanistan, but still - it is an outrage as she is supposed to be playing someone Punjabi - there are many talented actresses out there who would have fitted the part better such as these:
