My dad freaked out when he saw the movie, so I am wondering if it has any explicit depictions of gay sex?

maybe your dad's just too homophobic. actually there's only one scene but you hardly see any naked skin so it should be bearable even to you dad.

It most likely was alot of homophobia. he lived on a military base all his life.

Not really. There's one scene, and one scene only, where there's something obviously going on, and even then its obvious rather than explicit, if you understand what I mean.

I guess one caveat to all of this discussion is that Ryuhei Matsuda (the actor who played Sozaburo Kano) was 15 when he filmed that fairly clothed but-we-know-whatcha-doin' scene.

It doesn't show any nudity and their is one sexual scene, again nothing is shown and it isn't explicit at all. Now the violence on the other hand is surprising quite bloody.
