I'd love to see this on DVD

Now this is one 80's Saturday morning cartoon I would love to see on DVD. If this were released on DVD I would camp out in front of the store overnight so I could be the first in line. I still have a few episodes of Superman on VHS and I will always treasure them. CBS made my Saturday mornings complete back in the day. This, along with many other 80's cartoons, feels like such a large part of my childhood I can only hope that I will be able to see it again one day.

any chance in doing a copy of these cartoons on vhs

I just bought SUPERMAN Ruby-Spears cartoons on DVD, from Ebay. Quality is fair, and after watching, I can say these are truly the best Superman cartoons. I really enjoyed it. Who knows maybe in 2005 when the Superman movie releases, Warner Brothers will release this cartoon from 1988 onto DVD. But I can't wait that long.

I'm praying that they'll release the entire series in one of the DC Comics Classic Collections. Maybe after they're done with the 1996 cartoon.

In Australia they have it on DVD, it's super cheap $2.00 for like 10 episodes.

reply

I would love to see that. I don't recall ALL of the episodes but I do recall several gems, of course like every series there are the low point (I can recall a lame one having to do with the Prankster an a baseball game, although I though it was funny bacause I was so sure I could hear him say crap which would have been a big deal back then). I would love to see the one with Wonder Woman again for example, or the one with the Phantom Zone criminals, or the one were Lex buys the Great Wall of China and many more.

This is NOT out on DVD in Australia. This guy is referring to the Max Fleischer Superman episodes.

reply

does the ebay DVD have all the episodes?

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com has the series listed among the wannabe tv shows waiting to be released onto DVD.

this superman cartoon didnt even get a mention in the amazing story of superman the other cartoons did

reply

This show was not mentioned, but a clip from the shows opener was used as part of the introduction. This was the animated sequence with Superman stopping the train.

I was a little irritated that Lex was a cross between the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths evil corporate Luthor and the Luthor from the film franchise. However, I still think that the show was under-appreciated and would welcome a DVD collection.

too bad this series only lasted one season.. It seems like it would have been a shoo-in to continue..

So far, just about every other Superman animated series under the sun has been released in DVD. I say that we'll see this in stores before too long.

I watched it when I was little, I haven't heard about being out on dvd yet.

WB really needs to get on top of this and stop bs-ing around. It's so weird how this show has been treated outside of the one season it ran on CBS. I can't believe it never even had a single VHS release. I have a feeling that if it wasn't a Ruby Spears show, we might have seen a release a while ago.

Well, the Ruby Spears Plastic Man is making it to dvd. It's still weird that it's happening before Superman, the clearly more recognizable hero, though. I always like WB's releases, as far as content goes, but some of their decisions about what gets released when, where and how are pretty strange to me.

Then I've got gret news - 11-3-09 this series comes to DVD.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Finally, I've been wanting to see this show ever since I first heard about it. I was only 4 when it was on so I don't remember ever seeing it. Did I hear right that Darkside played a major role in it or was that a different series?

Darkseid didn't appear in this series. He was the main villain in the last 2 seasons of Super Friends and a pretty good villain in the 90's Superman series but he never showed up here. Lex Luthor was the main villain in this one.

Are those seasons out on DVD yet?

The Super Friends seasons with Darkseid ? Yeah, they have been for almost 3 years now I believe. So far, I've only managed to get the second one myself. It was the last season and featured a redesigned, more "comic book" look for Super Friends.

I remember this show vaguely. I think I saw it like once & was intrigued, but I could never find it again.
