Dinosaur Craze

In the early 80's it was all about robots like Gobots, Transformers, The Mighty Orbots, Short Circuit, Voltron - Defender of The Universe, etc. I blame this partially on Japan becoming a huge trading partner at the time and becoming influenced by all the robots they were working on and in anime at the time.

But in the late 80's I remember really being into this, Denver The Last Dinosaur, Dinosaucers, Dino-Riders, etc.

So why was there such a Dino trend then?
