I know that she isn't mentioned in the series, but I always had a headcannon Spike was momma's baby and he'd still see his mother if he can. I don't think that she is dead, but she may have kicked Spike out of the house to be more independent.

I thought the same as well. Criminal Organizations often attract wayward youth they can mold into criminals. People from a healthy family dont go off and join a mafia/yakuza type of outfit.
