Got the blu ray. Never seen the show. What is it?

I personally love the dark and sleazy atmosphere.

It's a flat out masterpiece. But don't take my word for it, fire up those discs!

You don't have to be a fan of anime to appreciate this show. I will tell you this, this show will ruin your expectations of anime. This too, was one of the first animes I ever watched and I desperately spent the next two years trying to finding something that was up to par to it and sadly rarely reached it. It's like what they say about the first time you get high and you just spend the rest of your life trying to reach that same buzz again. Sadly I do not even watch anime any more but Cowboy Bebop is wonderful. Please watch at least the first 5 episodes before dismissing it.

Watch and enjoy. I dont think you need to be an anime fan to like it, it's a good story, great characters, and is very well animated. It has a right balance of fun/serious, and I think if you approach it with an open mind, you will really like it.

In the beginning there was nothing, and it exploded.

As it's sometimes described, not a space opera, but rather Space Jazz.

I had no real idea what the show was when I started watching it, but by the end, I "got it".

I will say the first 3 or 4 episodes didn't grab right away, but the 5th got me hook, line and sinker.

Great animation, great backstories on all the main characters (some are pretty touching as well as depressing).

As someone that really doesn't care for much anime at all, this show was a pleasant surprise. But as someone else commented, there's really nothing else like it. So you may be left wanting when it's all said and done. Not that the show doesn't have an ending, it definitely does. But good luck finding something else to fill the gap. I sure havent.

The show is great as others have said, but the soundtrack is simply amazing. 10/10
