Feelings after season 1

Just as short recap of my feelings watching season one of this show in 2016. A show I missed completely in 2000.

Lets start with the good ones:
- Still holds up to this day if you like Trek, SG, Farcsape and similar shows
- Good versatile, likable and professional cast with different enough personalities (not TGN good but still)
- Ship's AI as a crew member
- Only one member of the main cast is mildly irritating and overdoing it (Beka)
- Season one had solid enough episodes
- After watching one episode, you don't mind watching a second one in the row
- Visual effects are decent enough although just barely to this date

Bad ones:
- Episodes are not exactly highly original, I've seen most of these concepts many times before
- Some of the effects looks quite dated and weren't seemingly done with high budget in the beginning with
- Tech stuff is mostly all over the place but if you just switch your brains off you'll do fine
- The whole "slipstream" idea is just bad bad bad
- Ship-to-ship combat scenes are boring, unimaginative and they lack any suspension: enemy "missiles" are like shooting peas at you, still don't know does Andromeda have some kind of shield system (never mentioned), after 10.000 years or so you don't even have beam weapons or anything else?
- Can ships advanced automated defense system do other things that shoot sparks on the wall? Very efficient.
- Alien races look quite anemic and cheap besides the main furry guy from neck up

Well,i to missed this show back then and now watched the first season and the larger part of season two.

Personaly i rate this show a class down from shows like the last Enterprise series
or Farscape, and way beyond SF shows like "Invasion","Firefly" or "This is not my life".
It felt to me like a sixties concept 1:1 transported into the new millenium. With
all its untimely clichees and naivities. Probably if i had be twelve or so,this
show had appealed to me,but as an adult - nope. This is way to yestermilleniums
kids program imho.

Naivety is not a problem to me and is kind of cute in today's too dark, serious and gritty world. Surely at least the first season is a bit "outdated" in today's standards in many ways but mainly because of low budget, crappy effects and the outdated "science stuff".

I watched the second season and in a way, it improved on the first season. Visual effects were vastly improved and are now very tolerable. Overall the episodes were a bit better than in season one. Few of the characters were unfortunately "bitchified", especially the Trance's transformation was unnecessary and to the worse. Her goofy and innocent character was fun to watch but not anymore. I'm sure I'll check the third season and hopefully the level stays at least the same.

I'm just catching Andromeda for the first time. It seems I've seen all the good stuff and now I'm trying to see what else is out there. A few weeks ago I saw Charlie Jade. I was shocked that such a great show could be completely unknown to me. It's even streaming for free on Amazon Prime, but it doesn't show up anywhere unless you actually seek it out. Such an amazing show being out there and no one ever talking about it gave me hope there might be others.

Andromeda is not strong out the gates. The first few episodes are cheap, cheesy, and there seems little interest in making the science even plausible. But after a few episodes it becomes more of an ensemble, character driven show. I'm almost through the first season and I would say this show fits in nicely with series like Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Farscape, and Enterprise. I love these type of shows because they don't rely as heavily on long story arcs the way modern shows do. So, each episode plays out like a short movie. The tone is light and fun, and there's heart. Very pleasant surprise.

Personally, I thought the show jumped the shark with new Trance. It all seemed to go downhill after that.

I liked it all, but I don't like how they decided to write Tyr out of the show. That was probably the most disappointing aspect of the series for me....

Honestly, Tyr was my least favorite character besides the hairy guy. Although his ending was absurd. Game of Thrones ending absurd.

Trance was an inferior character after the stupid switch and I hate what they did to Harper's character in the later seasons.

It's a B grade show. I love it. But it's B grade.
