Mason Verger makeup inconsistent

It was obvious that in different scenes it was changed or some of it was taken off. It was the most ''dramatic'' and grotesque when he was first revealed. Then in another scene when he was talking to the Italian man on the phone who was getting the pigs ready the makeup was again totally different, more toned down leaving more facial features intact. Also the scene where he was sunbathing with the sunglasses on -- makeup again had totally changed, he looked like a rapidly aged skeletal man.

What was up with this?

Sloppy film-making. To be honest, I didn't even notice it. Maybe you just have an eye for that sort of thing.

Yes, I’m watching the scene 1:24 into the movie and his makeup is definitely less grotesque.

I've never noticed this. But two possible explanations. It's the same make-up but the lighting makes it look different? Or, Mason Verger actually puts on make-up on occasion depending on the visitor.
