Monsieur Roberts outing himself

Was it really necessary for him to out himself to defend Toby? I thought it was a bad career move. What if he'd waited until he was head of the school and then done it? I think that'd have been smarter (but maybe it'd have made it harder to get the job back).

I never got to see the last of the three stories but parts of the first two had all the subtlety of a Michael Jackson music video (especially the expression of "the mother" and escape of those girls onto the roof in part one).
