Was Teddy capable of love?

Although he was only supposed to be a supertoy, Teddy seemed to have some sort of moral compass already, at least in comparison to that budding sociopath, Martin. Of course, who wouldn't when compared to that little sh*t? I just had then sense that there was a lot more to that toy than to the so-called 'real' boy.

Obviously, I hated Martin. 😜

Not loving, just caring. There to help if possible. It was on its algorithms.

But the teddy is able to understand what is going on.
How is that possible? Is it preprogrammed, does it communicate with some master computer that does the heavy processing, is it able to figure what what is good and what is bad on the fly?

reply

Teddy is still an A.I., i.e. he's conscious & self-aware of his own existence but he's not a sentient being, like David.

What is a sentient being?

reply

Teddy was the best part of this movie!

reply

David was a highly advanced A.I. that was programmed to literally feel love in precisely the same way a human does.

Teddy was a far more primitive A.I. that was programmed to comfort its owner, including by helping it.
