tony leung absolutely amazing

I don't know if this sounds a bit wierd or not, but to me Tony Leung is the best asian actor out there. I know, Chow Yun Phat has got a lot of credit for Crouching Tiger, but every movie i have seen Leung in is absolutely amazing!! In the Mood for Love, 2046, Chungking Express, even Hero i enjoyed him in! I think more western actors should take a key from him because he just rules in every aspect. Anybody agree?

reply

I completely agree, I would nominate him for best actor for 2046 as well as Ziyi Zhang for supporting actress. They both gave amazing performances.

"Play it Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'"
"Meet me in Montauk."

reply

I believe they won Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in "2046".

reply

Have you seen 'Infernal Affairs'? Tony is good in that one too. Also check out 'Chinese Odyssey 2002' and 'Tokyo Raiders'. It's so great to see him having fun in these movies and doing a great job at the same time.

reply

You guys should also check out, BULLET IN THE HEAD and CYCLO.

reply

"Bullet in the Head" aka "Never Having to Reload".

reply

You can try "City of Sadness" and "The Longest Nite". He is stunning in both movies.

reply

Holy *beep* Those are the only few two movies I haven't seen.

I must see City of Sadness and Longest Nite now! TONY LEUNG
OH YES YES OH YES YES OH YES YES OH YES YES OH YES YES OH

reply

maybe you should see "The Days of Being Wild" also
great movie :D

reply

It's true...though it seems odd to recommend DOBW for Tony Leung, his one scene is so effective, it's worth mentioning. His presence is so powerful you can't help but not care that nothing preceding it in the film prepares you for it.

reply

"As Tears Go By" is much better than "Days of Being Wild," which is pretty weak, even pointless.

reply

No, don't see Tokyo Raiders. Sure Tony's CUTE CUTE CUTE as ever, but it's a waste of your life. I only saw it for Tony and that was still a little stretching it.

he's also awesome in happy together.

Actually, for the first time perhaps, I think the leading lady beat Tony Leung for best acting. Zhang Ziyi was simply breathtaking. WKW worked wonders with her.

reply

Zhang Ziyi was simply breathtaking.
Not from where I was sitting. But she was o.k. Tony Leung IMHO takes the crown in this movie.

reply

well i hate this catergorising into "eastern", "western"... but.. yes... Tony Leung is absolutely AMAZING, compared to any other actors no matter what race. I think when we like an actor/actress its because we can relate, and they touch us at the level we are at... maybe because I am a chinese myself, i would never view tony as "a chinese actor", he is just a great actor to me....and when I see "western" actors, i could probably feel it from another angle... my favourite is Hugh Grant ^^ hehe!!! cute cute cute and such a natural comedian.

I have only seen a few of Tony Leung films, namely Hero, Internal Affairs, and In the Mood for Love but I simply adore this actor. His acting is very understated, very non-dramatic, which is what I like.
Watching 2046 tomm and hope to see many more of his films in the future.

reply

You have to watch Tony in Ashes of Time. He was so intense and charismatic.

reply

oh, thx will check it out. hard for me to get hold of chinese dvds where i stay.

I'd say that Tony Leung is not only one of the finest Asian actors in the world today, he's one of the finest actors in the world today, period.

reply

I agree with Johnny Weissmüller. I also think 2046 would have to be one of his finest performances, though not necessarily the best film I've seen him in.

Nadine :)

reply

The best way o see Tony's acting skills is to watch "In the Mood for Love" and "2046" one after the other.

And then watch "Chinese Odyssey 2002".

Wow.

Would just like to say that I agree with the majority of the people on this thread. Tony Lueng is a very believable actor. The way he develops the character of Chow from "In the Mood for Love" through "2046" is an exmeple of quality acting, IMOP. Not a good Asian actor, a good actor.
