Why didn't this show last as long as the other MLP series?

This show only last for only one season while the other My Little Pony series had more seasons. That sucks. I thought it was a good show. I never got the chance to watch My Little Pony when I was younger since I didn't have cable during it's run and it only lasted for one season. Sad. So I started watching them on Youtube.

Too much of a departure, lower budget, and according to Wiki the merchandise never made it to US shores. It seems like the red headed stepchild of all the shows in the series today.
