Malcolm is not smart

Many episodes allude to the fact that Malcolm believes in God. Since only an idiot would believe in God, this proves that Malcolm is an idiot.

Idiot and not being smart are two different things. I know a genius who can't keep up with wallets or properly ship a package.

He's very intelligent, but still has the emotional and physical maturity of a kid.

Really smart people generally are emotionally stunted.

that is true. and it gets worse if they skip a grade. most who skip a grade have to take an extra year in college because they lack the discipline and growth that the skipped grade provided.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.

reply

I'm an atheist and would never say only an idiot would believe in God. Even highly intelligent people will believe what they want to believe.

reply

The phrase I've heard about people like Malcolm is "All book, no street". Meaning that they have all book knowledge, but wouldn't really know how to function on their wits.

I, too, am an Atheist, and know those who have some sort of religious faith that are quite intelligent. I also know some idiotic non-believers.

"Meaning that they have all book knowledge, but wouldn't really know how to function on their wits. "

Knowledge is not intelligence.

Intelligence is not wisdom.

Atheists may be intelligent, but they have no knowledge or wisdom.

Atheism is just another religion - and religious nuts are all the same; they think anyone who disagrees with their belief (which is always blind and baseless), is an idiot, when the truth is, it's idiotic to believe anything.

(Belief requires no basis, so it's blind, and thus illogical and the opposite of something intelligent. There is absolutely no reason to believe anything, when you can

- know
- take (something) as a possibility
- have faith
- trust
- deduce
- reason
- intuit
- think
- have (an) opinion(s)
- be certain (to any degree)
- be uncertain (to any degree)
- have probabilities
- and so on
- and so forth.

'Belief' doesn't enter into any rational human being's mind, or if it does, it will immediately be ejected as completely needless, useless and completely stupid and baseless thing. You don't need to believe anything.

Hollyweird and other mainstream media of course hammers "You gotta believe" into your brain so much that you might be experiencing mental discomfort at even the thought of 'belief is unnecessary' or 'you have no obligation to ever believe'.

But hey, you don't have to believe me.. (:

"Atheism is just another religion ". Very true and a fundamental one at that.

I'm sure you probably trolling, but I haven't seen anything in this show based on religion. Except when they joined the church for the daycare.

There was that episode where Hal found out that Lois didn't believe in the afterlife and it really bothered him.

The family is not overtly religious and aren't seen attending services regularly like on The Simpsons, however, there are many references in the show throughout the years that the family does attend church. And many episodes have Malcolm asking God for things or saying how God hates him or is punishing him. A lot of this is seen when Malcolm talks directly to the camera, not in the actual plots of the show.

So smart people can't believe in God?

reply

I hate to point that your opinion is based on absolutely no logic. My father was a Christian and one of the smartest people I have ever known. On the other hand, my best friend is an atheist and also very intelligent...I could be wrong, but, the way I see it, your opinion denotes a seeming lack of intelligence and is slightly immature.

A lot of scientists believe in God and a lot of innovators and discoveries made in the past were by Scientists who believed in God as well.

Gregor Mendel is one.

if he believed in GOD it was so he could have someone to blame when it was his fault something he wanted didn't go his way
and GOD always exists in a fictional world because the shows and stories have creators
