The first episodes of the new version are already on YouTube and I have already reviewed it. Up to about episode 20 Aracely Arambula is the only flaw and not because of her age: Because she is overacting Aimee and underacting Regina (Monica). As I said in my review, she lacks the depth of Edith Gonzales or Leticia Calderon to make Regina look like more than a porcelain doll.
I like your choice of Altair Jarabo; she would have been wonderful. Sebastian Zurita is in the new version as Gabriel Aldama*. A little young to play Juan or Renato (Andres) but perfect for this character. Christian de la Fuente is perfect, actually, as Renato, and he looks great in Victorian clothes.
There were previous rumors of Cesar Evora as the villain; he might have been interesting as Rodrigo. Did Enrique Rocha ever say that Rodrigo was his favorite character or did YCEM have a special meaning for him? I thought he was fabulous in the original; he's definitely the king of villains.
*I actually like the combination of the stories of Corazon Salvaje and Yo Compro Esa Mujer; I'm amazed it took so long to remake the latter. This may have been the reason the producer wanted Eduardo Yanez (who really doesn't look like anyone expects 49 to look). Regina and Aimee are now the daughters of Rodrigo Montes de Oca and Renato is the son of Leonarda Montes de Oca (Matilde in the previous YCEM) and Noel Vidal (Noel Mancera in the previous CS). Leonarda shows traits of both Matilde Montes de Oca and Sofia Alcazar de Valle (pobre Don Noel). I guess somebody thought that two controlling parents are better than one.
Will this make anyone forget the 1993 version? No way! Nothing matches the chemistry of the four stars of the classic version. The new story is good, the photography and production values are superior, and most of the cast is excellent, but only had they cast someone else as the two sisters (who are born as identical twins) would it have even the ghost of a chance.
Finally, I might have cast Mario Cimarro as Juan; he has a "bad boy" quality that Eugenio Siller and Valentino Lanus don't quite come up to, although Eugenio might look very hot in black hair with that fair complexion, blue eyes, and hot bod.
The Fabio Principle: Puffy shirts look best on men who look even better without them.
