I don't know ... somehow I just can't believe any actor could do as good a job as Eduardo Palomo in this role. It might be that I'm biased although I know there are a lot of British and American actors out there that are brilliant. I just don't see them pulling off this part ... (can you believe that he wasn't actually the first choice for this part. Rendon - the director and producer - wanted Cezar Evora - Marcelo Romero - as Juan but execs forced him to choose Eduardo. For once, the suits were right! Who would have thought?!? lol)
Also I can't see anyone being as believable in the Monica role as Edith Gonzalez. She managed to be sincere and strong in a genuinely "good girl" role without for a minute being boring or simple. It's a hard balance to pull off. She reminded me quite a lot of Olivia de Havilland who was one of the only actress', in my opinion, who understood "good characters" so well that she managed to make them compelling and interesting ...
So I really don't know ... I WOULD watch it but I just can't see it matching up to this version.
The only Novela adapted for the American Networks that I have seen was Betty La Fea - Ugly Betty and in that they felt the need to change ... well everything about the original even though there was nothing wrong with that and millions of people across the world loved that production. I just don't see the point of them adapting something if they're going to change everything but the name and a character's fugly sense of style... And I'm pretty sure they thought they were improving it even though the American version never managed to reach the depths of the original story (which might have been funny on the outside but had a dramatic, almost tragic core) and the performances by the leads didn't hold a cnadle to those of Jorge Enrique Abello and Ana Maria Orozco.
So, by that logic, rather than seeing this classic butchered I'd rather just watch it over and over again. :) I've had enough with the latest version of CS to last me a lifetime ...
sorry for going off on a tangent and for babbling on ...
