The Last One

So, is this the last one. Is Blackadder done?

reply

I hope not...according to the end credits of Back and Forth:

"Blackadder Back and Forth 2... Coming... Summer 3000!"

But let's hope Ben Elton and Richard Curtis write a new series soon (pleaaaase?)...I think the cast would still be wonderful together (Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Miranda Richardson...gosh, they are just all SO brilliant!) I'm sure they had a great time filming all those series and stuff...I REALLY hope they will do another series...

He's kind and generous to the sick
He'd never spread a nasty rumour
He never gets on people's wick
And doesn't laugh at toilet humour
Blackadder, Blackadder, he's sickeningly good
Blackadder, Blackadder, as nice as Christmas pud

(from Blackadder's Christmas Carol) I sing that song every year at Christmas, and people wonder what the *beep* I'm singing...LOL...just my favourite Christmas song...Merry Christmas!!!

Hi, I'm rather sick and twisted, how are you?

reply

If Back and Forth is what we can expect as standard these days, I should hope it's the last one.

reply

Love the series but B&F was sub par

reply

[deleted]

No, I believe it's finished. They're done for.
The writers are out of historical scenario's. And come on, B&F was kind of a reunion but it's now been too long ago.
Already IV had to resort to repeating many of the previous jokes and characters (Bob, Flashheart, the joke with things that start with...).
And no Percy. Shame!

Say something sensible, Jeff!
Don't tell a lie!

reply

Yeah...there won't be anouther one i doubt. UNless R.A does more commercials as blackadder like he did at the jubilee. There was rumours going round that blackadder would be a manager of a 60 band in the 5th seris, or a crummy 70's super hero...but if thats the case then i don't wanna anouther seris.

"Do y'ou wanna come back to our hut" barry AUFPET

reply

Yeah the "Blackadder Back and Forth 2... Coming... Summer 3000!" pretty much says that there done.

reply

Tragic, if true..

I can imagine so many 20th (and 21st) century era premises, and plotlines, that would surely be fresh and hilarious.

But, by far, the best idea would be a feature film.

At the moment, it would be a wise idea for all concerned, for their careers have stagnated a bit.(not due to lack of talent, however. All are brilliant)

Elton & Curtis might do well to have the script written by someone like a Mark Gatiis. (!)

All he needs is a cunning plan.....

Tha Yanks are making one set in new york, though with Steve MArtin as Blackadder. Dear God, I think I'm going to cry.

You don't seriously believe that do you?

Wellll..

They did the UTTER TRAVESTY of casting him as the immortal Inspector Clouseau..
In all honesty though, the early Pink Panther films are universally acknowledged as the best .. the later ones go downhill somewhat.

((pinch your nose and raise your voice an octave to say the above line))

if you yanks don't get it, it's MONKEY..

reply

I think a new series is very unlikely and the money alone for Hugh, Stephen and Rowen would probably kill the project before it could get started. But annother special is more likely and a lot easier to get people commited to do. So i say wait a few years and hope for a christmas or new year special in 2009 perhaps?

reply

STEVE MARTIN AS BLACKADDER??!!...there is no god in heaven..and i am a yank...there's only one Blackadder and Rowan Atkinson is it...excuse me i have to go be sick

Percy was in it, you saw Tim Mcinnery as Darling didn't you, they changed his part after Blackadder 2, from Percy to a single episode in blackadder 3 as The Scarlet Pimpernel and finally to Captain Kevin Darling in Blackadder 4, so basicly Mcinnery has starred in Blackadder since the beginning, it was only logical not to change his personality back to how it was 300 years ago. What I don't get though is how Blackadder and Darling got their noble-status back. In B3 Edmund is alreaddy referred to as Mister Blackadder instead of Lord Blackadder, and we see how his status has dropped considerably since the last show and eventually in B4 he's a simple army captain (George and Melchet still have noble status but as far as i know they're the only ones in B4) Darling isn't a noble either.
Then I see Blackadder B&F and i see that both of them have climbed in status again, how did this happen? Blackadder was always flawless in the time leeps, and very consistent, so how they managed not to think this one over, God only knows

Anyway, in the end I didn't think this was too awfull, The return of Flash certainly made me very nostalgic, he's possible my favourite character (next to Edmund off course) The Roman scetch was pretty good and the rest wasn't that bad.
The ending was quite good, after 520 years he finally gets his wish and becomes King, but still the ending in B4 was better, they should have left it with that.

In conclusion they could have let Mcinnery play 2 parts and get Percy to appaer in this one, the only problem is the Blackadder in our times doesn't know Percy(i explained the personality change) so what would have been the fun of Blackadder going back the Elisabethan age and running into Percy saying, "Darling, you're a complete twat" because logically he would deduce that it is an ancester of Darling, but he would have no idea what Percy would actually be like, in conclusion this would be a very strange and timeconsuming scene. Atkinson isn't stupid, anyway, Mcinnery as Darling is equally funny Mcinnery as Percy in my personal opinion, you just have to get to know him lol, and in the end they both have the same stupid facial expressions, so whatever :)

was wondering how to word it but this guy did a perfect job i cant better him.

reply

what about a serie set in the future? For example, in christmas carol there was a future BlackAdder.

Baldrick: I a mi m'heu trobat a faltar?
Edmund: Eh.... Baldrick, oi?
Baldrick: Si.
Edmund: No, gens ni mica.

reply

[deleted]

I've heard rumours of a new one.

reply

Thats gobledejook

reply

Actually they're supposed to be making one that's set in the 60's, i don't know if this is true as i read it in The Sun(good source*sarcasm*).

reply

Yeah i heard that too. Blackadder is the Illegitimate son of a royal, whilst Baldrick is bald rick... he's in some sort of 'rock' band

No offence intended, but would you mind awfully *beep* OFF!!!

reply

they did announce a new series for 2009 but now they have decided as the last series was voted for having the best ending for a series, they wont but might do occasional specials with the new lord blackadder, present day.

The sixtiesseries was one of the ideas 15 years. The Sun prints that everytime someone mentions a possible new series, latest when Robinson mentioned it, where he, by the way, also mentioned that Atkinson is more keen of the idea of a new series than he has been in past.

We can't stop here! This is Bat-country!

reply

Well, I for one hope they'll do another one. Goes Forth didn't really feel like a great finish to the series, despite having a great closing.

reply

OI riekiebol

YOU MISSED OUT TIM MCINERNY!!!!!

HOW COULD YOU FORGET DARLING?!?!?

reply

I think if Curtis and Elton are going to write a new Blackadder series (pleeeeeaaaase) they should pick up where Christmas Carol left off and do an entire 6 episodes in the Victorian era....especially as Ebeneezer Blackadder became mean and nasty like all the others by the end of the xmas special. Obviously they'd have to find a way of bringing Fry, Laurie and McInnerny into the Victorian story (and perhaps Richardson), but I think it's a period full of history that they could rip into.

reply

as much as I love the series, I have to agree that they should give it up...Back and Forth was a drag (even with all the reprised characters), a sign that they've run out of ideas
..by the way, when he did the (unfunny and trite) Thin Blue Line series, Atkinson said in interview that he thought of this as an unofficial continuation of the Blackadder character....enough said

reply

i've got to know i've only ever seen the last episode of "The Black Adder" who was it that poisoned edmund with the wine?

reply

[deleted]

Percy told Baldrick to poison only the wine meant for the Black Seal, but he misunderstood and poisoned the whole vat, so when the court drank to Edmund, they all died.

Lisa: I'M LOSING MY PERSPECACITY!!!
Homer: Well, it's always in the last place you look...

reply

Baldrick said that to Percy.

"Percy, I told you to poison the Black Seal's goblets, not the whole vat!"

reply

If they could make it pretty good, I'd love for there to be a movie. Maybe it could show what happened after Black Adder became king in the third series! George would be dead, but they could certainly replace him with Percy or some new character.

reply

In one of his most recent interviews, Rowan Atkinson mentioned that he had the idea to make a fifth Black Adder series set in a WWII POW Camp, saying that the cramped quarters would fit right in with the style of the rest of the Black Adder series.

However, he also added that in making the first four seasons he and the rest of the cast were all comedians coming together at a certain point in their life. It's years later now, and as much as I'd love to see another series I think it would be very hard to force the chemistry they all once had. Hugh Laurie is now incredibly popular, for example, and all of their comedic styles have evolved in one way or another. This isn't to say that Black Adder is below any of them, but quite the opposite. It's very difficult to recreate magic like that, where the right people meet at the right place and the right time. You've watched this special, Black Adder Goes Back&Forth, so you can see that to be true. It just wasn't the same.

The ending of Black Adder Goes Forth really was something special. I think I'm not alone when saying I'd much rather the series stay where it ended rather than rehashing the same old jokes and spoiling good memories for the sake of a new series that could end up being staler than when Chancellor McStale choked on a stale biscuit during a stalemate. :P As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

That said...bring on the fifth series. XD If they can do it, I'd sure like to see them try.

reply

I think Curtis speculated that he might do one in modern times when Black Adder is aid to the Prime Minister and the government is dealing with some satrical scandal.

I think it has potential, make Fry and Laurie the PM and Vice PM respectivly and so on.

reply

there was also talk of doing Blackadder in the 1960s as a struggling rock group (with drummer Bald Rick).

reply

This thread was started in 2003. Its now 2012. Almost 10 years. Thats nuts. I was 20 when this woman was contemplating if there would be another blackadder series or not. Now Im 30. Weird.

HEY! OP! You still alive? Whats happening with you these days then? Still want them to make another season?
